Rare Set of Twenty Six Magic Lantern Slides 'A Walk Through the White City', 1908. At the time, the 1908 Franco-British Exhibition was the largest exhibition ever held in the UK. It was situated around the Wood Lane and Shepherds Bush area in West London, later to be better known as White City, due to the number of white buildings erected. A cross between an Edwardian Kew Gardens for flower beds and parks, the 'Great Exhibition' for education and Blackpool Pleasure Beach with impressively engineered rides like the famous Flip Flap, it was extremely popular, but not so well known today. A couple of slides cracked, but a fantastic coloured set of detailed views. Also a set of eight 'Views of London', one cracked.

A BRASS HALL LANTERN, C1900 with bevelled glass lights, 57cm h including hookOxidised/verdigris. Lacking one of the four finials, the bevelled glass lights all secure and in good condition with only a shallow edge chip on the side of one. One of the vertical corner pieces with 3mm drilled hole. A good quality relatively heavy example
A ships lantern, with brass carrying handle and applied brass plate inscribed "Overtaking Patt. 4895 Metal Industries Ltd., Hamilton, Canada". Height 20 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Looking directly at the lantern the top left-hand side is sloping which would lead one to think that it had been dropped. The lens appears to be in good order. The slide out tray with reflector has a corroded rim around where the light should be. There are a few small dints throughout but nothing too significant. There is evidence of solder all around the copper which frames the lens. The carrying handle is also slightly misshapen.
A fine late 18th Century Welsh fruitwood knitting stick inscribed and dated 1798, of two stages united by two three link chains and a swivel, one part with a hook over a lantern and ball, the other with a lantern and ball over a cut out hook and inscribed to one side 'Thomas Bra Bruck 1798 - AW', the whole with zig zag chip carved decoration, the opposing side to the inscription incorporating within the design a shepherds crook, 39cm

A rare Charles II brass cased quarter striking "winged" lantern clock, the front fret engraved "Eduardus East Londini", the 6.5ins diameter silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals and two steel hands, the centre silver alarm disc with engraved Tudor rose surrounded by brass dial engraved with tulips and leafage, to the verge movement with later anchor shaped bob pendulum oscillating between two inner plates, to the three train quarter striking movement with alarum, striking on two bells, contained in brass case with turned uprights and finials, heavy silvered metal bell, the brass framing with turned uprights, turned finials and three cast frets, the front engraved, and with later glazed winged apertures to the side doors with later pierced and engraved crestings, 15.75ins high, and with four brass cased weights for same Provenance: Sold Sotheby's, Bond Street, London - Important Clocks, Watches, Wristwatches and Barometers - Auction 13th October 1988 - Lot 191 - Noted as The property of Viscount Hereford Note: Edward East born 1602, apprentice 1618 to Richard Rogers, elected Master of the Clockmakers Company 1645 and 1652, and Watch and Clockmaker to Charles I, died 1696. This clock is thought to date to circa 1680
An 18th Century brass lantern clock by George Clarke, Leadenhall Street, London, No. 5373, made for the Turkish market, the 7.25ins diameter silvered chapter ring with Turkish numerals and spandrels cast with crescent ornament, to the brass framed movement with turned uprights and finials and fretted and engraved side panels, the brass and steel framed movement with verge escapement, 14.75ins high, and with later wooden wall bracket for same Note: Probably George Clarke recorded working Leadenhall Street, London1725, Livery of The Clockmakers Company 1787 - Fine Table Clock in the Wetherfield Collection, Sheep's Head Clock with Turkish figures and longcase clock in the Virginia Museum.
