A PRESSED GILT METAL TEN GLASS LANTERN IN THE REGENCY STYLE DESIGNED BY OLIVER MESSEL With chamfered cresting and apron, with storm shades, fitted for electricity approximately 97cm high, 55cm wide Provenance:Supplied by Oliver Messel A lantern to a near identical design is illustrated in C. Castle, Oliver Messel: A Biography at Oliver Messel in his Terrace Dining Room at Maddox, Messel's Barbadian home.Condition Report: Some wear to the gilding of the metal and areas refreshed. The fittings to the reverse would suggest that once the panels were glazed and then adapted to have storm shades without glazed panels. The metal of the three sconces would suggest that these were matched up with the storm shades and the lower sections have been repaired and re-gilt. one section of the basal scroll-work has been broken off.
