A 1970's concrete and bronze garden lantern, with an opaque glass shade, on a slender column and cast base. Provenance: Believed to originally have been installed at the American Embassy in London and removed during refurbishments201cm highCondition report: Overall appears to be complete and usable. Quite weathered overall and this has cuased the metal to dull and the concrete to mark. The glass shade appears intact. Is not very stable, so would need to be correctly fixed in place as it is heavy. Not currently wired for use.

A Part Set of Sixty Five Magic Lantern Slides from the Mission Photo Bureau of Shanghai, China, possibly relating to the 30th May 1925 Movement, the slides show European/American men working alongside Chinese workers, mainly at railway depots, some village and rural scenes, some duplicates, in a pine box.
A fine pair of decorative Jacob petit French polychrome porcelain Flasks and stoppers, each of square form with canted corners, the main panels decorated with various scenes of figures merrymaking, jesters, figures viewing lantern slides etc., in salmon, green and gilt grounds, each with reticulated neck and square stopper on four scroll legs, 10" (26cms), inscribed underneath, Darte Palais Royal X021. LORD BLAKENEY A rare English rectangular enamel plaque, c.1756-61, painted with a monk holding a lantern over an oval portrait, titled 'Ld. Blakeney' on the plinth beneath, mounted in a gilt metal frame, 9.2cm overall. William Blakeney was Member of Parliament for Kilmallock from 1725 to 1757. He took part in the War of Jenkins Ear (see lot 14), being appointed Brigadier-General. Following the disastrous campaign in the West Indies he returned to Britain and was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Stirling Castle in 1742. After the Battle of Culloden (see lot 16) he was promoted Lieutenant General and given command of the Highlands. In 1748 he was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Menorca. During the early part of the Seven Years War, and despite gallant efforts to defend the island, Blakeney surrendered on 29th June 1756, the Garrison being given free passage to Gibraltar. Absolved of any blame for the defeat, Blakeney was raised to the Irish Peerage the same year and retired from military service to Ireland where he died on 20th September 1761. He is buried in the nave of Westminster Abbey. A print published in 1756, engraved by James McArdell after George Chalmers was inspiration for this plaque. Cf. A vintage tin plate hall light fitting of lantern style, together with wrought iron angle bracket. Light fitting height 46 cm, maximum diameter +/- 20 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The shade height is 23 cm. The diameter internally is 9.5 cm and 10 cm externally. The shade is very dirty but appears to be in good condition. The top edge is nice and smooth. The bottom edge is a little rough to touch but only in the usual manner and there are no significant chips or scuffs simply the expected tiny edge nibbles.
AN OAK LONGCASE CLOCK by John Edwards, Norwich, the thirty hour lantern movement with anchor escapement and outside count wheel striking on a bell, 11" square brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, leaf chased centre with calendar dial, the case with scrolled fret pediment and brass finial on engaged columns, arched door, panel base and bracket feet, 83 1/4" to top of finial (Est. plus 21% premium inc. VAT)movement and face in very good condition, case with good rich colour, replaced door hinges, small loss to base moulding, possible reduced (?), with weights and pendulum but feather snapped off
