Condition - glass good, one clip on frame for glass missing As catalogued, all glass complete; two brass clips missing, needed to secure the detached glass panel; embossed hexagonal brass frame is lightweight and tarnished; soldering around glass sometimes worn out of shape in places, not too serious. The three brass chains complete, needed to hang the lantern but one chain missing the S-link, needed to connect to the frame.

A late 19th century mahogany and brass Ross Magic Lantern, the mahogany base with inset 'ROSS LONDON' makers plaque, with brass bound ROSS lens with rack and pinion focus, wooden slide changer, cover and chimney, electrified illumination with concave mirror, metal carbon arc marked 'PATENT 9225 1910', lacking glass cylinder and possibly some other components, contained in a red painted pine crate, lantern base 58cm long x 30cm wide, 43cm high with chimney, together with a quantity of paper bound printed glass slides, with subjects including, Little Red Riding Hood (12 slides), a Polar expedition (12 slides), chickens, chicken rearing, early church organs, misfortunes at home, a quantity of photographic slides of landscapes, and others. Rust spots to cover and chimney, and other tinplate parts, spotting to brass lacquer and various scratches and small shallow dents to wood. A part late 17th-century brass, 30-hour lantern clock, by an undescribed maker, with urn finial cast bell and decorative frets, now fitted an odd-legged deadbeat escapement, the silvered dial with Roman increments and a single iron hand above a rose engraved centre. supported by small bun feet. 15.5 cm wide x 14.5 cm deep x 38 cm overall height.A private estateI think the clock has seen extensive re-working and I can not see any evidence of a verge escapement on the top plate, the top plate is now fitted with a Babbcock to accommodate a spring steel tipped pendulum seating below in a forked crutch.
