Brass lantern-style clock, the 6.5-inch silvered Roman dial with inner quarter track and half-hour divisions, engraved 'Luke Gray Shastone Fecit', the movement with anchor escapement and wheels of four crossings, with pinned side doors, the case with strapped bell surmount and pierced dolphin cresting on turned supports, 35cm high, together with a carved dark oak case of 'longcase clock' form, the open hood with shaped side wings, 192cm high Condition: This maker is apparantly un recorded, although there were a famiuly of clock makers called Gray at Shaston (Shaftesbury, Dorset) This clock maybe a replica of a late 17th/early 18th Century example using some original parts. The bell is oversized for this type of clock and the strap surmounts are atypical. Some staining and slight losses to numerals of chapter ring. Disc holding hands in place is clearly of a later date. Most parts of mechanisim appear sound, however this lot is untested and sold as seen. The case would appear to be carved in the late 19th century and like the clock itself includes some earlier timbers. Sold with eight day-style clock weight, plus brass-faced pendulem, the feather is missing its pin. Sold as seen. **We do not guarantee the movement or accuracy of clocks - Please see extra images and TELEPHONE department if you require further information.
