No side doors. No wall pins.Bell is replaced and too too small for clock. No evidence of previous verge escapement. Frets likely replacements. Square-head screws modern replacements. Wear to pinions especially on the fly wheel. Top and bottom plates and upright pillars are redder in colour than other elements. Four small modern brass bolts to going train rope wheel.

A Rare Royal Coronation Brass Lantern Form Mantel Timepiece with Passing Strike, designed by Davall & Sons in 1936 for the Coronation of Edward VIII, signed Davall, London, 1937, lantern form case with engraved side panels, surmounted by a crown strapwork beaded bell top, silvered chapter ring, dial centre with enamelled Royal Coat of Arms and inscribed GRVI crowned 12th May 1937, single barrel movement with hour passing strike on a top mounted bell29.5cm highThis clock was originally designed for Edward VIII but then when he abdicated the title was replaced on the dial to George VI. Information regarding this can be seen in "Clockmaking in England and Wales in the Twentieth Century, by John Glanville and William M.Wolmuth, page 338". Brass surfaces are slightly discoloured, dial is slightly discoloured around the winding hole area, movement is complete but is slightly dirty, with pendulum.
