dating: about 1760 provenance: France, Straight, single-and false-edged blade, flat with a rear groove. Base engraved with monogram 'S D' (?), probably of manufacturer. Brass hilt with heart-shaped shell-guard, a stylized lantern among the two loop-guards. Spherical pommel. Wooden grip covered with brass wire binding with ring-nuts engraved with rings. Leather scabbard with iron mounts. Two suspension rings of triangular shape. Provenance: R. Brooker collection, inventory n. S - 587. length 104 cm.
Cromwellian Eureka brass electric lantern clock, the 7" brass chapter ring enclosing a foliate engraved plate inscribed Eureka Clock Co, Ltd, London, Pat no. 14614-1906, also bearing the no. 2253 above six o'clock on the chapter ring and inscribed Made in England below, surmounted by pierced foliate and dolphin frets, strapwork bell and finial, 17.25" high
Fine and rare second period hoop and spike brass lantern clock, signed on the lower front heraldic fret Richard Beck at Ye French Church Londini, over a 6.3" chapter ring enclosing a foliate engraved centre with single iron hand and central engraved brass alarm dial, surmounted by three heraldic pierced frets, strapwork, bell and finial, 15.25" high (weight) (alterations)* The movement of this clock has been converted from balance wheel to verge escapement and, unusually for an English lantern, has a half hour strike ** The working life of the maker Richard Beck was limited to scarcely six years (1653-1659). He died aged 27 and only five clocks are known to have been made by him, all with balance escapements
Arts & Crafts stained glass oval lantern in the style of Jesson, Birkett & Co, comprised of three leaded panels with blue and red cut glass jewels within a yellow and green border. The frame is hand beaten and punched copper with a crown shaped central fitting, 39cm high, 20cm diameter.Condition report: There are two pieces of cracked glass, both on the same panel. The three sections are secure however there is some slight moment when it is carried. There is an even patina across the copper.
