Agatha Walker, a figure of Elizabeth Barrett Moulton-Browning, modelled in wax over plaster, titled, dated 1931 and monogrammed, 27cm high, in a glass case. This figurine is one of several wax figurines executed by Agatha Walker in the 20s and 30s, mostly of actors and actresses in character in successful London productions. The 19th century saw a craze for ceramic figurines of performers and Walker attempted to revive this tradition with her limited edition sculptures, modelled from life in plaster and coated with a fine wax layer which was then coloured. In 1931 her wax figures were exhibited at the Fine Art Society and a model of Queen Mary, commissioned by the queen, was exhibited in 1938.
