The charm of her face is further accentuated by her captivating eyes, well-defined nose, and delicate lips that convey a sense of grace and serenity. Her hair is intricately styled into a coiffure, which is elegantly tied back, adding a sense of refinement and sophistication to her appearance. The Etruscans were renowned for their skill in bronze casting and produced a range of exquisite figurines that were used for both decorative and religious purposes.Size: L:115mm / W:50mm ; 150gProvenance: Private London collection, B.A.; formerly in pre-2000 European collection.

Lot 346

Ca. 1368-1644 AD or later . A glazed-terracotta figurine depicting an attendant in an upright position, standing atop an integral, small base. The gentleman is dressed in a carefully glazed robe, which is beautifully detailed and adds a sense of elegance and refinement to the piece. The most striking feature of this mingqi is the level of detail that has been lavished on the gentleman's face. Every feature, from his eyes to his nose to his mouth, is rendered with incredible precision and skill, creating a sense of realism and individuality that is truly remarkable. Mingqi were an important part of Chinese funerary art during the Ming Dynasty, and they were often used to provide the deceased with the objects and attendants they would need in the afterlife. These figures were typically made from unglazed earthenware or glazed pottery, and they were often highly detailed and elaborately decorated. Cf. Christie's Live Auction 5564, Asian Art, 15 September 2005, Lot 407.Size: L:180mm / W:50mm ; 275gProvenance: East Anglian private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.

The statue features a subtle sway to his left, with his left leg slightly bent and placed up front, while his right hand is raised, and his left hand is outstretched with a piece of lion skin draped over it. This representation of the mythical hero is both powerful and graceful, conveying a sense of strength and poise. The figurine features a nude representation of the hero, with a muscular body that is masterfully rendered with intricate details. The chiseled contours of his physique, including his well-defined muscles and sinews, are executed with remarkable skill and precision, conveying a sense of physical prowess and athletic grace. The facial features of the statue are equally impressive, with a well-proportioned and expressive face, and lovely arranged hair. The hair is intricately styled, with fine attention to detail, adding a sense of refinement and sophistication to the piece. The depiction of Herakles in this figurine exemplifies the importance of the hero in Etruscan mythology and his continued relevance in the ancient world. This Ming Dynasty ceramic figurine belongs to the mingqi tradition, a practice in which tomb figurines were used to provide the deceased with a retinue of servants, soldiers, and officials in the afterlife.
