A choice Pre-Columbian Pensador (Thinker) figurine from Jalisco, West Mexico. Ca. 200 BC - 350 AD. This excellent example is 5-1/4 in. high and portrays a male hunchback supporting his head atop the arms resting on the updrawn right knee. The nicely burnished torso is painted in the characteristic red and the simple headdress is painted black, which stands out nicely from the kaolin white face. In perfect condition, with strong mineral deposits and root marks. Cf. Kan "Sculpture of Ancient West Mexico", page 72. (XJA2)
