Lit. Eugen v. Philippowich, Elfenbein, S. 248/249; Philippowich, Antiquitäten/Kuriositäten, München 1966, Abb. 232, 233; P.W. Hartmann, Elfenbeinkust, S. 90." ZICK, STEPHAN (Nuremberg 1639-1715, and his workshop), Nuremberg, late 17th century. Anatomical model of a pregnant woman. Ivory, carved in full round, movable arms. The removable breastplate offers a view on the internal organs: heart, liver, intestines, uterus and the unborn child that was fixed with a thin string. The patella shows the typical lateral groove, wrong anatomical depiction but typical for the Zick workshop. Min. chips. The figure is later fixed on a wooden base with drawer, the original ivory pillow is missing. Provenience: Since several generations property of a Mid-German family of physicians. Until 2018 the figurine was item on loan in the German Ivory Museum in Erbach. Stephan Zick, descendant of a Nuremberg dynasty of ivory carvers was specialized in anatomical models, not only models of women and men, but also single body parts as eyes and ears. His works today are rare collector's items, some of his models are conserved in European museums
