A Royal Doulton figurine "Catherine of Aragon", model HN3233, together with Royal Doulton figurine "Anne Boleyn", model HN3232 CONDITION REPORTS Both with light general wear, but appear sound. Catherine is numbered 4195 of 9,500, and Anne is numbered 4770 of 9,500. The wear appears to be very minimal and with no major scuffs or scratches apparent. Gilding general appears to be good. A little wear and dirt to the underside / base rim. There are some very faint dots / spots to Catherine's headdress to the black area which appear to be spots of dirt. A few minor firing / potting blemishes to both but both do appear to be of first quality with no signs of cancellations or crossing out to underside.

STATUETTE DE PLEURANTE EN MARBRE Portant une tenue de deuil à grand capuchon, elle enserre son poignet dans un geste conventionnel de douleur. Cette figurine, probablement issue d’un atelier parisien, devait orner l’une des niches du soubassement d’un monument funéraire. Qualifiées de pleurants ou deuillants, ces représentations de personnages à l’allure affligée et au costume quasi monacal sont bien connues par les tombeaux des ducs de Bourgogne. Leur forme féminine reste rare. Une deuillante en albâtre plus grande mais très proche par le costume et le geste des mains figurait dans l’exposition consacrée aux pleurants dans l’art du Moyen âge au musée de Dijon en 1971 (cat.20) provenant de la collection Sterling. Du fait de sa rareté au XIVe siècle, généralement en remploi de colonnes antiques, le marbre blanc était réservé aux ateliers tombiers et particulièrement aux tombeaux princiers.
