Ca. 450–400 BC. Classical. A beautiful bronze figurine of a bull standing on a four-legged stone platform. It is naturalistically modelled with a heavy body, a long tail extending between legs, short horns, small ears, a thick dewlap, incised mouth, nostrils and recessed lidded eyes. Ca. 2000–800 BC. Western Asiatic/ Amlash culture. A bronze figurine depicting a female figure standing in a frontal pose; her hair styled in two characteristic knots above the temples, her right arm held out beside her body with open palm; truncated at the waist. The Amlash culture, also known as Marlik culture, is found in Northern Iran, enduring for many centuries. It was one of the most distinctive Iranian cultures of the late second and early first millennia BC which had cultural contacts with the Assyrian Empire. Ca. 206 BC–220 AD. Han Dynasty. A hollow-formed terracotta rabbit figurine with creme pelt, coral-pink pigmentation on the nose and ears, and red and black pigment in the eyes. The rabbit is depicted sitting on all fours with his ears pricked up. In Chinese tradition, the rabbit is the luckiest of animals and symbolises elegance, beauty, and mercy. The Han Dynasty, which ruled between 202 BC–220 AD, brought great prosperity and stability to China, reigning over a golden age of classical Chinese civilisation during which China saw major advances including the widespread development of a monetary economy and the invention of paper, as well as much progress in the decorative arts. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this lot. A 20th Century Chinese bronze Han Dynasty style figurine depicting The Flying Horse of Gansu, also known as the Bronze Running Horse or the Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow. The horse is modelled in a galloping stance, perfectly balanced on a single foot stepping on a swallow. Measures approx; 20cm x 22cm.
Josef Lorenzl (Austrian, 1892-1950) - An Art Deco bronze and ivory figurine of a dancer. The figure having a carved ivory head with detailed features and hair slicked back. The tap dancer with arms outstretched and one leg raised. Raised on a domed signed circular base and set to a black marble & onyx lozenge base with white metal cylindrical pillars. Measures approx. 27cm tall.
