A Japanese Silver Jewellery-Box, by Nomura, Retailed by Samurai Shokai Company, Yokohama, Circa 1900, Meiji Period oblong, the sides and hinged cover each decorated in high relief with Japanese water irises, the interior velvet lined22cm wide by 15cm deepSigned underneath with Japanese characters and stamped with retailer's name and further Japanese characters. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some bruising in places.
An Elizabeth II Silver and Enamel-Mounted Dressing-Table Service, by Albert Carter, Birmingham, 1958 and 1959 each enamelled in vari-coloured green on an engine-turned ground, comprising a cut-glass dressing-table jar; a shaped oblong jewellery-box; two hair-brushes; two clothes-brushes; a hand-mirror and a comb; Together With a matching silver plate and enamel scent-bottle with gilt-metal mounts the hand-mirror 28.5cm long (9)Each piece except the scent-bottle is marked as expected. The scent-bottle is apparently unmarked. There is some minor wear to the marks. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some bruising to some pieces. The bristles on the hair and clothes brushes worn and somewhat discoloured. There is some soiling inside the box and some unevenness to the base as can be seen in the images. The teeth of the comb are broken with many lacking.
A Japanese Mixed Metals Writing/Calligraphy Box, Meiji period, of rounded rectangular form, the hinged caddy top worked with various foliate mons within scroll borders on a lattice ground23cm wide, later converted to a jewellery boxConverted with a long hinge added to the reverse. Poorly fitted inside. Fitting could be removed and cleaned. The hinge has been screwed in place so would leave holes. Slight warping to the top but closes well. Large dent to the rim of one of the roundels on top. General wear.
