A BRITISH ROYAL WATCH BY K. ZIMMERMAN, LIVERPOOL, 19TH CENTURY. W: 57.7 g D: 43 cm. A fine & unusual gold skeletonized watch. The case is 18k yellow gold with a three body, spring loaded back entirely decorated with vermicelli. The case is engraved with the British Royal coat-of-arms from the reign of His Royal Highness Prince Albert (1819-1861). Inside the case is a hallmark for Chester 1860. The dial has a gold ring with Roman numerals on a matte background, engraved flowers and gold minute dots. The movement is gilt, skeletonized and engraved with foliate pattern, fuse movement with maintaining power and chain. It has 15 jewels in gold settings, lateral counter poised lever escapement and bi-metallic compensated balance. The watch is signed on the back plate T. Dunn's Patent No. 3. K. Zimmerman, 31 Slater St. Liverpool. The English patent office records indicate the patent issued to T. Dunn regarding the case design. The fabrication of the movement design is very unusual for English watches of this period, Weight: 57.7 grams, Case diameter 43 mm. The watch is mounted in a very fine gilded and silk lined jewellery box. On the top is an enameled picture of an elegant lady in a red shroud and signed by the famous French enameller D Henner. Provenance: English private collection. Condition Report: Watch:- Excellent condition. Hallmarks to the inside of the case. In working condition. Minor scratching to the glass consistent with age. Box:- Excellent condition. Relined in red silk and velvet. Ormolu in fine condition. Very small repair to front right leg. Enamel panel in excellent condition.
