A German silver singing bird musical box, apparently unmarked, 20th century, shaped rectangular and embossed with figural scenes and trophies, operated by a lever formed as a bird to the front releasing an oval cover embossed with cherubs releasing a caged bird, revealing a pierced interior with a coloured feathered bird, the rear side with a hinged compartment for the key, 10.7cm (4.25in) wide, in a box with a key. In that example two typed notes were found inside the key compartment ‘Singing Bird Box by Karl Griesbaum Circa 1900’ and ‘Manufactured in Germany Wooden framed bellows painted yellow Trade mark:- Bird perched on mound with letters K G on either side (under bellows)’.
