A Napoleonic Prisoner of War Straw-Work Jewellery Box, early 19th century, of rectangular form, the hinged cover decorated with boats on a river, opening to reveal the inner cover decorated with doves and trophies and three compartments with two hinged covers depicting a lady and gentleman, all within herringbone and floral meander borders, 24.5cm wide, with paper label describing provenance, attributing the work to Jean de la Parte and its purchase at Norman Cross, Huntingdonshire in 1810 for the price of £1, the label dated 1936 Significant losses to pigment on exterior of box but still with strong colours internally. Hinged cover and both internal covers with some warping. Typical losses and repairs to decoration throughout, including three large splits to decoration internally due to movement of carcass. 210213
A Suite of Coral Jewellery, including a long length branch coral necklace with a cluster centre and drop tassles, length 128cm, a four row coral bead bracelet, with a carved cameo set clasp, length 18cm, a carved cameo coral ring, finger size K1/2 and a carved coral cameo brooch in a beaded frame, measures 2.4cm by 3.3cm (4) Overall the condition is good. The necklace is missing one tassel. The bracelet appears to have had some `home-made` repair, and is glued up at one end. The carvings are a little worn, and there are slight scuffs and scratches on all pieces. The ring is stamped `9CT` and in our opinion would test as gold. The brooch fastens with a pin and hook catch and the bracelet with a tongue and box catch. Neither of these bears a hallmark, nor a stamp, but in our opinion they would test as pinchbeck, or another non-gold metal. Gross weight 83.2 grams. CR made 29th January 2013
