A Suite of Emerald and Diamond Jewellery, including a ring, a pendant piece on a serpent link chain, and a bracelet, of stylised butterfly style links, formed of a marquise cut emerald within a border of four round brilliant cut diamonds, ring finger size N, necklace length 41.8cm, bracelet length 17.2cm (3) The pieces are in good condition. The necklace fastens with a bolt ring catch, and the bracelet with a tongue and box catch with a figure-of-eight safety catch. None of the pieces bear a hallmark, but each one is stamped `750` and in our opinion would test as gold. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour I/J/K, clarity SI1/SI2/I1. The Eye of Time (El Ojo Del Tempo), a 1950’s diamond set watch brooch after Salvador Dali, probably manufactured by Alemany & Ertman New York, the watch at the centre as the eye, with a blue enamel dial and black Arabic numerals signed ‘Dali’, the eye lids pavé set throughout with brilliant cut diamonds and a line of baguette cut diamonds, approximately 5.00 carats total, with a cabochon ruby in the left hand corner suspending a pavé set eight cut diamond tear drop, the 17 jewel Movado watch movement unadjusted, cal. 50 SP signed Movado Factories, stamped ‘Pt’ to the clip, 7cm long, in a green velvet Alemany & Ertman New York box. Created in 1949 by Salvador Dali, The Eye of Time is “An eye that sees all things”, and as Dali explained of this piece, “Man cannot change or escape his time. The eye sees the present and the future”. Dali entrusted the making of his jewellery designs to the New York workshop of craftsmen, Carlos Alemany and Ertman, who produced limited editions of the original jewels, including another example of The Eye of Time, now in the personal collection of Queen Sophia of Spain. The original jewels created by Dali are now on permanent exhibition at the Fundacio Gala-Salvador Dali in Figueres following their acquisition in 1999, having previously passed through the hands of a number of collectors.
