A collection of costume jewellery; including a German paste brooch in white coloured metal marked '935', a pair of German paste jabot pins in white coloured metal marked '935', assorted costume jewellery, some signed, and includes a pair of cased opera glasses and a wooden musical trinket box
An early 20th Century emerald, diamond and enamel bar brooch, in the Arts & Crafts style, in original box with the maker's name Mrs. Newman, Goldsmith & Court Jewellery, 10 Saville Row. Provenance: Mrs Philip Newman studied the art of fine gold- smithing and jewellery design under the renowned John Brogden. Their collaboration provided jewels in the later 19th Century which were famous for their Egyptian and Etruscan influences and many International exhibitions. Following .Brogden's death in 1885, Mrs. Newman established her own workshop in Saville Row and employed many of Brogden's craftsmen. Mrs. Newman used her own individual artistic designs along with Brogden's workers' skills to create distinctive jewels in the best tradition of the late Victorian art jewelers. See illustration
