Related shapes are known in glass from the 18th century. A white saltglaze punch ladle was sold by Garry Atkins, An Exhibition of Five Hundred Years of English Pottery, (1992), p.18, no.46. No other English delftware punch ladle is apparently recorded. However, an interesting parallel might be drawn from the decoration on a Liverpool delftware bowl from the Olive Collection, sold by Bonhams on 31 January 2019, lot 118, contemporary with the present lot.
