An early 18th century long white metal toddy ladle, having part twisted baleen handle and bowl inset with a 1711 gilt coin, unmarked, approx. 35.5cm long, together with a George II white metal toddy ladle, of slightly smaller size wit twisted baleen handle and inset with a 1757 silver coin, approx. 30cm long. (2) Further details: some spitting to larger examples baleen handle; connection part to George II example with damage and split but just still connected, surface marks and wear; both tarnished and with scratching.

The majority marked with Austria Dianakopf in cinquefoil for .800 silver, 1872-1922 and with indistinct rectangular cartouche and two other unidentified marks, potentially a double headed eagle and some other bird. The other two spoons marked with Russian marker's mark PA, assayer mark B II 1886 for Vasily Aleksandrovich Petrov, and 84 silver standard mark (for 875/1000) and town mark for Moscow.Length ranges from 5 1/2 in to 9 in. Gross weight of sterling: 15.02 Troy oz.Condition: Outer tine on fork bent inwards. Light scratching and wear, some small dents.

An Early 20th Century Asante Ceremonial Carved Wood Yam Ladle, Ghana, with deep bowl, the handle carved in the form of a saw, the whole incised with birds and foliage, 44cm; another Smaller Example, the interior of the bowl carved with heart motifs, the exterior with birds, the handle carved as a segmented snake, 32.5cm (2)Footnote :- with a note stating that the ladles were brought back from Ghana by Bertie H Pennymore 1902-1903. These ladles were used to serve mashed yam as a food to the gods during the annual Yam Festival. The mash was then shared amongst the priest and congregation, with the ladles being hung on the shrines in open rooms of the temples. Ref. p.176 "The Asante" by M D McLeod: British Museum 1981. 1 - There is bruising to the back of the bowl in two places. 2 - The bowl is chipped and has a repaired split. Neither show evidence of woodworm.
