A LARGE, LIKELY FRENCH, COVERED SILVER SOUP TUREEN, EARLY 19TH CENTURY of bulbous form with two handles formed from maidens, the body featuring a hunting scene motif of elk, hunting dogs and huntresses against a foliate ground, the cover with a handle formed as a miaden. resting on a stump a dog stands next to her atop a foliate and floral ground, the spoon formed from the body of a maiden with a gilt ladle matching the gilt interior of the tureen and cover, the four legs formed from twigs, marked with date mark and maker's mark both effaced underbase; height including cover: 50 cm (19 3/4 in.); length of ladle: 45 cm (17 3/4 in.); total weight: 5.50 kg (194.01 oz) CONDITION The tureen appears in good condition.
