C. De Rothschild`. Provenance: The Estate of the late Dame Miriam Rothschild. Baron Mayer Carl Rothschild (1820-1886) was the son of Baron Carl Mayer de Rothschild and Adelheid Hertz. He married Louise Rothschild, daughter of Nathan Mayer Rothschild and Hannah Cohen, on 6th April 1842. This present lot was probably a purchase for the new matrimonial home. A RARE GEORGE III OLD ENGLISH PATTERN CHESTER SOUP LADLE, RICHARDSON (3) OR (4), bright cut borders and vacant catouche, Chester 1789, 5 ozs, see illustration. The very clear makers mark is a fairly large plain RR,no stops between, in a rectangular punch with a single notch at the top and a double notch underneath. It is not known when Richardson (3) died `Richard Richardson` (4) was AM in 1789, resigning the post in 1791.
