A Regency painted wooden doll's house, early 19th century, with predominantly later contents,106cm wide37cm deep138cm highProvenance: Mr Evan Steadman, former organiser of The Grosvenor House Antiques Fair, and Mrs Patricia Steadman.Condition ReportAccompanied by a letter from Halina Pasierbska, Curator of Dolls' Houses & Toys at the Museum of Childhood, dating the house to approximately 1818 (see additional photos for full commentary). The staircases are characteristically 19th century but appear to have a few pieces replaced. The paint colour is typical of the period and shows, with remnants of turquoise paint in some areas to suggest later paint has been stripped back to the original finish. Hinges look replaced. One glass pane cracked. A few splits to the facade. Chimney stacks probably a later addition. Furnishings and dolls later. General wear and signs of age throughout but in a relatively stable condition. There are no obvious signs of woodworm but the interior has had many nails put in, and taken out of, the walls.
