Michael Landy RA, British b.1963- Credit Card Destroying Machine Drawing; red felt-tip pen, signed and dated 11 in black felt-tipped pen, 42x29.5cm (unframed) (may be subject to Droit de Suite) Provenance: Acquired by the current owner at the Frieze Art Fair, London, 2011 from the Thomas Dane Gallery. Note: To produce this drawing once a felt-tip colour (red, blue, green or black) has been selected and attached to a page of a sketchbook. A button is pressed and the Credit Card Destroying Machine activates, cogs roll, scissors snip, saws turn and cuddly toys wobble, producing the spirograph-like drawing. Before taking the custom-made artwork, the attendant must hand over their credit card, which is dropped into a fluoro wood chipper, to be obliterated and spat out into a hundred pieces below. Throughout this procedure, Landy would stand anonymously in the queue of people at Frieze, listening to their reactions and inner battles with whether or not they should - or can - be separated with such finality from their credit cards. CONDITION REPORT: Unframed In plastic protective cover signed in felt-tip pen and dated lower right a slight bend on the paper down the left hand side Otherwise in very good condition
