PAIR OF PRATT & LETCHWORTH HORSE DRAWN PLEASURE VEHICLES. The first toy is a hansom cab and as typical of Pratt & Letchworth, they paid great attention to detail in both the horse and cab. Circa 1880s-90s, the fine and delicate castings include such accoutrements as side lamps and a rear step to the seated driver. The second toy is a 2-seat open carriage. Also as typical of P&L, they employed a fine and delicate framework under the carriage body. Carriages are enameled in black with yellow pinstripe wheels and various colors highlighting other trim work. In both cases, a caramel colored horse with elaborately painted saddle and trappings further add to the appeal of these toys. Both toys have a seated driver with movable arms (older replacements). LOT OF 2 WILKINS FIRE TOYS. The first toy is a 3-horse ladder wagon with integrally cast seated figures and the typical tin and iron back end. A latter Wilkins toy utilized an unusual method of attaching horses to the front end. Literally the mane of the horse has a hook at the rear and they virtually float on the yoke assembly so they give the impression of galloping. The second toy is an early style automotive hook & ladder wagon with an integrally cast seated fireman on the front end. A clockwork mechanism under the rear axle would allow the toy to propel forward. When the toy hit the wall or other obstacle, the ladders would spring up into action. I am sure Mom & Dad loved this toy when it would hit them in the leg. This method was a patented feature for the late Wilkins/early Kingsbury toys. SIZE: 20"" l and 18"" l, respectively.
