Harry William Adams RBA (British 1868-1947) Pollards by a Stream in Winter, signed lower right, Harry W Adams, oil on canvas, 122 x 122cm. Harry Adams was born in Worcester and studied in Paris at the Academie Julian from 1895-96. He later worked at Royal Worcester Porcelain and taught life drawing at Worcester College of Art during the war. Harry Adams was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy from 1896-1927, and his work is at the Tate Gallery, London, and Worcester City Museum. He became well known as a landscape painter of mountain and snow scenes, inspired by several visits to Switzerland
Ruth Burden (British b.1925) Cat in a Tree, inscribed on the reverse, Ruth Burden , oil on canvas, 74 x 90cm. William Scott (1913-1989) regarded Ruth Burden as one of his star pupils. Ruth Burden was born and educated in Worcester. She studied at the Birmingham College of Art, 1945-50 under Fleetwood Walker and Katherine Fryer. She later studied and taught briefly at Bath Academy of Art (Corsham) 1950-51, under William Scott and Peter Potworowski. Ruth Burden later taught in Warwickshire and Oxfordshire. Her exhibitions include group shows at The New English Art Club, Royal West of England Academy, Royal Society of Artists Birmingham and the Womens International Art Club of which she was an elected member. She has loaned pictures to the Arts Council, who exhibited her work in various group shows, including the Young Contemporaries and Pictures for Schools, and recently had a very successful exhibition at Duncan Campbell Fine Art in London in 2002
