A Royal Worcester terracotta earthenware dinner and tea service designed by Scottie Wilson printed in black with a tree of life, fish and bird motif, comprising; three various graduated trays, a tureen and cover, two covered twin- handled pots, a jug, two saucers, six dinner, entree and side plates, a coffee pot and cover, milk jug and covered sugar basin, six cans and saucers printed mark, facsimile signature, chip to base rim of sugar basin, coffee pot 8 inches (20cm) high. David Bates (1840-1921). "The Brook, Lledr Valley". Signed and dated 1913, inscribed on a plaque attached to the frame and a further inscription and signature verso in the artist's own hand, oil on canvas, 46cm by 36cm. Provenance: Mandell's Gallery, Elm Hill, Norwich, ref no 4080. A Midlands' artist who worked in Worcester, Birmingham and the Malvern Hills. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Suffolk Street and the Grosvenor Gallery. See illustration
A Coalport Fruit Painted Cabinet Plate, Frederick Chivers, circa 1920-30, shaped circular, painted with a bunch of purple grapes, a peach and blackcurrants on a mossy and ivy clad bank, signed, within a broad midnight blue border enriched with gilt scrolls, dentil rim, blue printed crown mark, gilder's number 5351/R and impressed 18A23, 27cm diameter. Frederick Chivers (1881-1965) fruit and flower painter, who worked for the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company, but by 1906 worked at the Coalport Pottery specialising in fruit studies. The background on his work was achieved by working the ceramic colour with a matchstick, giving a stippled effect.
