The life in this lush province on the Vietnamese border left an unforgettable impact on the artist, which remains his main inspiration throughout the years. With two fellow artists, He Neng and Liu Shaohui, Jiang secretly formed the nucleus of what was first called the Heavy Colorist School and is now known as the Yunnan School. Tiefeng's work quickly gained prominence and his talent was conceded by the authorities of China. The government assigned him production of Social Realism propaganda posters and sculptures during the Cultural Revolution. At that time, he painted the famous poster of red-faced Chairman Mao. Later, he became one of the well-known illustrators of children's books in China. In 1979, he was commissioned to paint a mural representing the Yunnan province for the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. This was the 'Stone Forest' mural, one of Jiang's finest works.EXPERTISE: Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the artist at Fingerhut Gallery. [Canon Law] Gregory XV, about 1628, 2 COPIES IN USA VERY SCARCE COLLECTION OF GREGORY XV'S PAPAL BULLS AND DECREESINCLUDING THE BULL DEALING WITH THE ELECTION OF THE POPE[Papal Bulls] Gregory XV. Bullae et Decreta Recentiora. (Romae: ex typographia rever. camerae apostolicae; about 1634).4to (203x151 mm), contemporary vellum binding, handwritten spine title in brown ink, ff. [4], pp. 298, f. [1, blank].Some woodcut initials and decorations.Woodcut illustrations representing the cards used for the secret ballot for the election of the Pontiff.Very scarce first edition of the papal bulls and decrees by Gregory XV and Urbanus VIII, promulgated between 1621 and 1628.The pontificate of Gregorius XV, namely Alessandro Ludovisi (Boulogne 1554-Rome 1623) had been characterized by the reformer aim of the pope and his attempt to reduce the interference of the catholic monarchs into the choice of new popes. Some of his measures gathered into this collection had become renowned: the Inscrutabili Divinae Providentiae bull of 1622, by which the congregation of the Propaganda Fide was founded in order to spread the catholic religion; a bull of the very same year that prohibited the emission of licenses allowing the reading of the Bible in vernacular, then considered a mortal sin; the Sanctissimus bull of 1632 by which the thesis rejecting Holy Mary’s immaculate conception had been prohibited, even if not condemned.Pope Urbanus VIII (Maffeo Barberini; Florence 1568-Rome 1644) became famous for his art’s sake more than due to his political skill. During the 30 Years War, he backed Richelieu’s France and squandered the Vatican funds in nepotistic donations and magnificent architectural works. He is known as Poussin and Lorrain patron, as well as for his request of a canopy for the altar of Saint Peter’s Cathedral, then realized by Lorenzo Bernini. During his pontificate, moreover, the famous process against Galileo Galilei took place.Provenance: Handwritten note to title-page Collegij Urbevetani Soc.is Iesu.References: ICCU quotes two editions with different foliation, both printed anonymously and only with this simple half-title. OCLC 82916239 locates only 2 copies in USA, at Harvard Law Libray and at Berkeley Law Library: «It contains documents from pontificates of Paul V, Gregory XV and Urban VIII issued between 1617-1630». Minor traces of use; overall a very good copy.

[Churches Agreement] Hottinger 1661 2 COPIES IN USA THE POLEMIC ON THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN WESTERN AND EASTERN CHURCHESPARALLEL TEXT IN GREEK AND LATINHottingerus, Ioannes Henricus-Allacci Leone. Fraudis, & imposturæ manifestæ convictus a Leone Allatio. Romæ, Typis Sac. Congreg. de Propaganda Fide, 1661.8vo, contemporary limp vellum with handwritten title at spine. Woodcut headletters, pp. [16], 600, [16] .Text in Latin (chiefly) and Greek.Rare first edition of Hottinger’s polemic against Leo Allatius, regarding the reunion of the Western and Eastern Churches. The work is present in this collection for all the legal aspects of canon law involved in the matter.Leo Allatius, also know with the name Leone Allacci (c. 1586 – 1669) (Greek: Λέων Αλλάτιος) was a Greek scholar, theologian and keeper of the Vatican library. Allatius was a natural apologist for the Eastern communions in Eastern Europe, convinced as he was in himself that in the acts of union neither reasons of faith nor of doctrine were fundamental to the succession of the bishops, only a transfer of jurisdictions, and he seems really to have believed that the “Latin faith” and the “Greek faith” were identical and that under "Roman obedience" they could still be Orthodox. So he argued in his contribution to the mid-17th century Uniate pamphlet De Ecclesiae occidentalis atque orientalis perpetua consensione («The Western and Eastern Churches in perpetual Agreement») printed in 1668. Such notions led to the final stipulations that the Eastern Churches were not to be merged with the Catholic Church but would retain their own hierarchical independence and traditional rituals.Johann Heinrich Hottinger (1620–1667) was a Swiss philologist and theologian. He gained such a reputation as an Oriental scholar that the Elector of the Palatinate in 1655 appointed him professor of Oriental languages and biblical criticism at the University of Heidelberg. References: OCLC 46690612 locates the copies at Berkeley Law Library and University of Notre Dame. A very fine and unsophisticated copy.

Good VF, toned. Struck in high relief. Fourth example known. From the Sunrise Collection. The "pedigree" coins issued by Agathokles copy the coin types of his predecessors, with the predecessor`s name and cult epithet on the obverse, and Agathokles` name and titles on the reverse. Agathokles` intent was clearly to advertise the line of succession from Alexander the Great to himself, presumably as an aspect of his civil war propaganda. Although all of these pedigree coins are very rare today, coins of this particular type commemorating Demetrios I are probably the rarest among them.

Curse her!! Needless to say one of my 4 trusty marine orderlies pulled her off gently but friendly & she was never near gaining her objective thank God!!
