A rare Lakin and Poole group of Cephalus and Procris, circa 1795, Cephalus wearing purple tunic and yellow blue-lined cape, modelled spearing Procris, who sits beside him wearing classical robes, on a rectangular marbelled base, titled in black, 27.5cm high *Taken from Greek Mythology, Cephalus (which is translated as head) was considered to be the founding father of the great family, which would come to include Odysseus. Another interpretation is that Cephalus represents the head of the sun, who kills, or evaporates Procris (translated as Dew) with his unerring ray, or 'javelin', as depicted here in this figure.
