* FRANK COLCLOUGH (SCOTTISH 1941 - 2023), FLOWERS, POOLE POT & LEMONS oil on board, signed, titled versoframed and under glassimage size 51cm x 41cm, overall size 72cm x 62cm Note: Frank Colclough was born in Wick, Caithness and lived in London before settling back in Scotland in 1975. He originally worked as a design draughtsman while studying art at Camberwell Art School and worked as a professional artist since 1981. All Frank Colclough early contemporary paintings were in watercolour, but over recent years he worked in acrylic and oils. The inspiration for Frank Colclough paintings stems from his admiration of the Scottish colourist movement. This is reflected in his paintings which consist mainly of marine views of the Scottish West Coast and colourful still life studies. Frank Colclough contemporary paintings appear in many private and public art collections. The RSW, RGI and RSA have also regularly exhibited his work. Frank was a frequent, popular and very successful contributor to The Scottish Contemporary Art Auctions from 2008 for many years.

He was discharged as a consequence of wounds on 13 June 1916 and awarded a Silver Badge, No. 50006.

He enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in November 1917, and served at home. Roper-Marshal was declared bankrupt in 1937, with his business in London folding, and he married Nancy at Bristol in September 1939. In later life he was a Publican at The Old Inn, St. Breward, Cornwall, and he died at his pub in January 1871. Sydney Burt was born in St. Michael’s Mount, Cornwall. He was a Boatman in Penrith, and also served in the Special Constabulary there. Burt served with the Royal Naval Reserve (entitled to 1914-15 Star trio), and was discharged ‘medically unfit’, 14 April 1915. He died in Marazion, Cornwall in February 1963. Frank Bomford was born in Retford, Nottinghamshire. He enlisted in the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment, 14 September 1914 (entitled to BWM and VM), and was discharged having suffered a gunshot wound to the leg (20 April 1917) from the 2/8th Battalion, 27 August 1917 (entitled to Silver War Badge). He served with the East Retford Special Constabulary, and died in East Retford in 1979. Claude Ashley George Compton was born in Rushmore, Wiltshire. He was a Baker, served during the Great War with the 8th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles (wounded in October 1917, entitled to BWM, VM and Silver War Badge), and subsequently served with the Evesham Special Constabulary. Compton died in Birdham, Chichester in September 1963. Philip G. Mountford was born in Bournemouth, Hampshire, and was educated at Bournemouth School - where he was a Sergeant in the O.T.C. Mountford was commissioned in to the 5/7th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment (T.A.) in May 1924, and served with the Bournemouth Special Constabulary. He died in Poole in 1975. All sold with respective memory sticks of research.

POOLE R.W. KENT R.), Memorial Plaque in original card folder (FREDERICK HENRY POOLE), together with Frederick Poole in walking out dress, the back annotated 'Pte F.H. Poole, R.W. Kent Regt. Killed in Action 24th April 1915, letter from the Infantry Record Office, Hounslow dated 8th June 1915 informing Pte Poole's family of his death in action, letter from the Infantry Records Office dated 7th March 1921 accompanying the BWM and Victory Medals to Poole's family, born in august 1897 at Dalston, Middlesex, Frederick Poole enlisted 11th September 1913 at Maidstone, and was posted to the 1st Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment at Dublin, he entered France 10th November 1914 as part of 13th Infantry Brigade, 5th division, which fought at Mons. Le Cateau, and 1st Ypres, and was Killed in Action on 27th April at the Battle of St Julien, part of the 2nd Battle of Yore when 13 Brigade was under the command of V Corps.

Henry Bone R.A. (British, 1755-1834)An Officer, called Captain James Poole Oates, wearing scarlet uniform with silver epaulettes and white standing collar, a white sword belt with silver badge across his chest. Enamel on copper, signed on the obverse HBone, gilded frame, the reverse glazed to reveal locks of hair decorated with gold wire and seed pearls on opalescent glass. Oval, 77mm (3 1/16in) highFootnotes:Henry Bone's rectangular preparatory drawing of the full portrait, squared in ink for transfer and with the oval of the final enamel visible, is inscribed Capn Oates, is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery (NPG D17770). The gallery record suggests that the sitter is a Mark Oates, a Captain in the Royal Marines and that the original portrait was by John Opie.
