We take the sword to have been the property of Alfred Léonard Loewenstein (1877-1928), a Belgian financier. At his peak in the 1920s Loewenstein was held to be the third-richest person in the world. During the war, he was granted the honorific rank of Captain in the Belgium army and tasked with provisioning the Belgium troops. His death is shrouded in mystery and has been subject to much speculation.Condition report:The blade is rusting and pitted, particularly closer to the tip as is obvious in the images online, not bent, no notches but the rusting and pitting is having an effect on the edge.We do not post directly, please see this page for our recommended providers https://www.gildings.co.uk/buying-with-gildings/
