*SUSHILA SINGH (1904-1999) 'Candles for the Black Madonna' signed lower right, oil on hardboard, 61cm x 46cm; together with a stylised study of figures beside a staircase, oil on board, 85cm x 72cm (2)Provenance: The Collection of Bournemouth & Poole College.Sushila Singh was a painter, print maker and occasional ceramicist born in India in 1904. Her father, the Queen's counsel Bawa Dhanwant Singh, retired to England to give Sushila the advantage of an education not yet available to girls in India. Sushila's early works were surrealist in nature, with her later work becoming more abstract, yet retaining a dreamlike quality. Sushila held solo exhibitions at the John Whibley Gallery, Exeter University, Oxford, Grabowski and Heal's Mansard Galleries and Galerie Niklaus Knoll, Basel, Switzerland. Sushila Singh and Arthur Henry Andrews met whilst students at Hornsey School of Art and latterly Royal College of Art under William Rothenstein, where they graduated in 1929. The pair were married in 1930, Singh and Andrews' works are held in public collections such as Atkinson Art Gallery, Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and the Paintings in Hospitals Scheme, as well as private collections around the world.

*GEOFFREY EARLE WICKHAM (1919-2005) '3 Forms' abstract construction, aluminium, 32cm high x 23cm wideProvenance: The Collection of Bournemouth & Poole College. Geoffrey Wickham was a sculptor in a wide range of materials, painter, teacher and critic, born in Wembley, Middlesex. He studied at Willesden School of Art, 1935–8, under Ernest Heber Thompson, then at Royal College of Art, 1946–9, and was for many years principal lecturer in fine art at Sir John Cass School of Art. Wickham was elected a fellow of RBS in 1967 and won its Silver Medal in 1972, showing with AIA, SEA, Leicester and Upper Street Galleries and NEAC. Solo shows included Alwin Gallery, AIA and Arts Theatre Club. From 1982–5 he lived in Japan. After marriage to the potter Gisela Albrecht, Wickham married the artist Akiko Fujikawa. When Wickham’s work was shown at Hattingen Art Society, Germany, in 1989 it was strongly influenced by Japan and included rare representational sculpture.'Artists in Britain Since 1945' by David Buckman.

Mat Chivers is a British artist born in 1973 in Bristol. As an object-former and sculptor he has collaborated with other artists, architects, designers and communities to realise projects that result in the evolution of sculpture in the context of both natural and built environments.Solo exhibitions include the Study Gallery of Modern Art in Poole (2007). Projects include Arts Council England awards in 2003 and 2005. Works in public collections include Source at the Healthy Living Centre, Bristol (2004) Meander (1 & 2) at Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (2006), and Wave Migration collection of The Met Office headquarters, Exeter (2004).
