Gates, Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), and Ian Howe (Sean Bean) used the stem of a meerschaum pipe they found in the frozen wreckage of the ship Charlotte at the beginning of the film, as well as Gates' blood, to reveal a message hidden in his notebook. This black Moleskine® notebook is blank except for the hidden message page, which matches exactly what is seen on screen. The item has some wear from production use and age. Some of the pages are stuck together, allowing it to be held open at the correct page. The lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Walt Disney Pictures. Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) and Ian Howe (Sean Bean) discovered the pipe in the frozen wreckage of the ship Charlotte at the beginning of the film, and Gates used the stem of the pipe and his own blood to reveal a hidden message. The pipe was then used as a key to unlock the ship's treasure room.The pipe is made predominantly of resin and is intentionally distressed to look like aged meerschaum. It has some wear from production use and age, with scuffing, scratches and remnants of stage blood on the stem. The lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Disney. Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger) and Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) found the Book of Secrets in the Library of Congress and used it to guide them to Mount Rushmore and the hidden city of gold. The leatherbound book features printed pages full of historical details and conspiracies, including the Kennedy assassination, Area 51 and the Moon landings. It also includes maps and photographs, including one of the missing plank from the Resolute Desk. The book has been intentionally distressed to appear old, stained and well-used, and is held closed with leather string. It is accompanied by a sample page, which was produced early in the production. The book has only very minor wear from production use and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Ross MacDonald, who researched, designed and constructed the book for the film.
