*Napoleon I (Emperor of France). Madame Tussaud modelled this reduction from the copy. The Napoleonic Rooms were finally opened in 1842 with the tableau depicting Bonaparte lying in state, covered with his original Marengo Cloak. For complete authenticity, the death mask was used as the face. The tableau, together with many Napoleonic and Waterloo relics, was destroyed by the fire in 1925. This death mask was acquired in 1897 by the military historian and author D.H. Parry (1866-1950) in whose collection it remained until his death. (-)
