A late-19th / early-20th century Meissen-style porcelain figure model of a semi-clad female figure seated within a two-wheeled shell-shaped chariot-style chair, she holds an apple in her right hand above a cherubic figure and a dove-style bird sits next to her left foot, 17cm high, blue painted crossed swords style mark to underside of base CONDITION REPORT: The pigeon like bird to the right of the seated maidens right hand leg has lost its tiny beak. To the fight hand side of the maidens right leg there is a trail of very small and delicate flowers, “some” of which have lost minor extremities and petals as expected but nothing major. The biggest problem is that the trailing of the cloak is completely missing from where the maiden rests her left arm and elbow upon it. The porcelain moving wheels appear to good general overall condition. The underside of the “chariot” is slightly discoloured and exhibits some natural “wear” as expected and the lead and collar appear to be completely away from the cherubs left hand up until the collar on the pigeon/dove style creature which also has a match head sized chip to its right hand wing, where the “lead” would have originally been affixed to the bird there is a small further chip to the pink ribbon. This piece is not without faults and condition is generally commensurate with age.

John Wilkes (1725-1797) was an English politician and radical journalist whose criticism of the King in his magazine The North Briton earned him a warrant for his arrest for libel in 1763. Citing parliamentary privilege he was cleared of the charge and went on to become Lord Mayor of London in 1774.
