Commemorative Medals, Russia, Anna Ivanovna (1693-1730-1740), the Peace with the Turkey and the Ottoman Empire, silver medal, 1739, by Johann Carl Hedlinger (1691-1771), her ornate armoured bust r., wearing an Imperial ermine cloak, a small crown and pearls in her hair, rev. eagle, a laurel wreath in its beak, alights on a mound of captured trophies, signed H on exergual line, 59.5mm., 114.5gms. (Diakov 81.1; Felder 159), extremely fine, lightly toned and exceedingly rare *Bt. 5 November, 1973, W. Whelan. There was no example of the medal in the Thomas Dimsdale collection (Morton & Eden, 26 November 2008), however an example in gold had sold earlier in 2008 at Gorny & Mosch Giessener Münzhandlung (19 March) for €220,000. More recently an example in copper was sold by Fritz Rudolf Künker GmbH & Co. (9 February 2016) for €1,500. The cataloguers can find no other example of the medal in silver being offered for sale in recent years. Further medals by Johann Carl Hedlinger will be found listed under Sweden and Great Britain. Circle of Michael Dahl (Swedish, 1659-1743) Portrait of a lady in a cream dress and blue cloak oil on canvas, oval 64 x 58cm (25 x 23in) Provenance: From the collection of the late Sir Donald Sinden, CBE, FRSA (1923 - 2014) Lined and cleaned. Oil on canvas which has been lined. An old damage at the upper right edge has been repaired. The paint layers are thin and worn in some areas. There are a few areas of retouching across the surface. The varnish is matte and uneven with some surface dirt. The finish on the frame is worn.

(British, 1646-1723) Portrait of Katharine, wife of Thomas, 6th Earl of Westmorland, in a cream dress, blue and gold cloak and lace mantilla oil on canvas 64 x 61cm (25 x 24in) Provenance: The collection of John Fane, Dreweatts, 26 November 2009, lot 214, and thence to Fulbeck Manor, Lincolnshire Thomas Fane, 6th Earl of Westmorland PC (1681 – 1736) married Katharine Stringer, daughter of Thomas Stringer in 1707, and they were married until she died on 4 February 1730 without issue. Lined and cleaned. Oil on canvas which has been lined. Canvas tension is good. The paint layer is stable. There are numerous retouchings on the painting which are well matched to the original, notably in the sitter's face. The varnish is semi-matte and even. There is some surface dirt. The frame is in a good condition.

An 18th century English porcelain figure, possibly Bow, depicting a girl in yellow cloak over floral design dress, on circular bocage base, 5in. (12.7cm.) high; together with a Derby porcelain figure of a seated boy in yellow coat over an unbuttoned shirt, a heavily laden basket of fruit on his lap, on scroll base with gilt decoration, 5in. (12.7cm.) high. (2) * Condition: Lady figurine has r/h arm missing, chip to top of hat feather, rubbed paint on hat, chip to robe edge, floral & leaf base has major chipping. Male figurine has a small chip to coat and light crazing on face.
A Japanese carved ivory okimono, Meiji period (1868-1912), depicting a noble woman holding a parasol (the shade revolving) and seated in a rickshaw, her driver standing before her, holding a cloak, signed with single character to red inset plaque to base, 5½in. (14cm.) high, 6 3/8in. (16.25cm.) long, glued repairs to wheel axles. * Condition: Both wheels have been off and have glued repair to joints between wheels and axle. Right hand wheel centre has small chip and small inserted sliver of ivory to keep secure. No other damage noted. Left side of okimono is slightly sun faded.
