A Chinese blue and white brush pot, Kangxi period 1662-1722 of cylindrical form with a modelled foot and a gently flaring rim, finely decorated in cobalt underglaze blue with a design of two ladies ( Long Elizas ) receiving offerings of baskets of flowers in a stylised landscape scene with rocks and pine, the base with stylised floral sprays, the footrim stepped and the base glazed with two concentric circles. The paste and form of the foot combined with the style of the painting with its use of graduated blue wash effects suggest a dating to the early part of the Kangxi period." A Chinese Lavender Blue Glaze Brush Pot, four character mark to the base Wen-zhang shan-dou, 18th century of typical form and stoutly potted with near upright sides with a faint convex profile, covered to the exterior with a clear lavender blue glaze with rippling effects and clear traces of bubbles, the interior with a very pale lavender glaze, the foot mainly unglazed but with glazed sections to the rim and central interior, which is also countersunk and marked with a blue enamel four character mark which reads Wen-zhang shan-dou (Scholarship as high as the mountains and the great bear).
