John Stanton Ward RA (1917-2007), An Illustrated Letter from Bilting Court, Ashford, Kent, with a Study of Fountains Abbey, inscribed with dedication 'Dear May and Peter we must blame Yorkshire for the lateness of this letter. I found Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx so beautiful and such wonderful subjects that instead of lolling around writing PCs and letters I spent the time drawing. We did so enjoy our stay with you and I much look forward to returning and carrying on with the conversations. Thank you for the absolutely delicious dinner and marvellous claret and for so kindly sending on the shaving brush. Life is much more comfortable now. All good wishes, yours ever John', 24 x 34cm
