Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh 1928 - New York 1987) Mao Farbsiebdruck, 91,4 x 91,4 cm, verso handsign. Andy Warhol und num. A. P. 8/50 sowie Copyright-Stempel 'Copyright © Andy Warhol 1972 printed at Styria Studio Inc.', unter Glas gerahmt. Warhol, Andy (Pittsburgh 1928 - New York 1987) Mao Silk screen in colours, 91,4 x 91,4 cm, on the reverse autographed Andy Warhol and num. A. P. 8/50 as well as copyright stamp 'Copyright © Andy Warhol 1972 printed at Styria Studio Inc.', framed under glass. - From the edition of 50 artist's proofs. - Following a suggestion of his dealer Bruno Bischofberger Warhol began creating a series of famous personalities of the 20th century. Warhol found the model of his Mao portrait on a cover of the 'Little Red Book', at that time widespread also in the West. The series nobilitates the autocrate as a hero of pop culture, on the other hand it mocks maoist ideology by dramatic combinations of colour and showing the party leader looking as if he wore make-up. - Literature: Feldman-Schellmann, II, 98. - Provenance: Private collection Hamburg since the early 1980s - Painter, graphic artist, film-maker and editor, one of the most important exponents of pop art. His serial works depicting consumer goods and celebrities are still among the icons of contemporary art.

Andy Warhol Andy Warhol Andy Warhol (1928 Pittsburgh - 1987 New York) "Chicken Noodle Soup" aus dem "Campbell's Soup I portfolio" Farbserigraphie/Velin, 1968. Verso sign. u. gestempelte Nummerierung 47/250. Herausgegeben von Factory Additions, New York; Druck Salvatore Silkscreen Co., Inc., New York. Wvz. Feldman/Schellmann II.45. Blatt 88,5 cm x 58 cm. Serigraph (screenprint) in colours on wove paper. Hand-signed on the reverse with stamped edition-no. 47/250. Slight light toning.

Warhol, Andy: Jacqueline Kennedy III (Jackie III) Jacqueline Kennedy III (Jackie III) Farbsiebdruck auf festem Velin. 1966. 101,5 x 76 cm. Verso mit dem Künstlerstempel "Andy Warhol". Auflage 200 Ex. Feldman/Schellmann 15. Laurence De Valmy Banksy Kissing Coppers, 2020 Acrylic and Ink on Paper Signed verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) "My goals are to share about the stories behind the artworks, the connections between the artists and to make my viewers consider these artworks with a renewed interest by replacing them in the context of their creation. For this auction I chose artists who had common points or who worked on common themes such as the Kiss by Banksy and Bridget Riley."   Laurence de Valmy is French born and lives in Philadelphia USA. She started her career in France in 2005 as a painter creating artworks in the style of contemporary realism and would regularly exhibit. Laurence de Valmy invites us to reflect on the links between artists through times and the relationship between Art and social media today. Inspired by the personal stories of artists, she revisits Art History through fictional anachronistic Instagram of the past asking "what if Instagram had always existed?" The artist combines her knowledge of art history and painting to appropriate iconic artworks and share their stories. Each artwork, skilfully hand painted with acrylic, is a clever juxtaposition of an original painting and an imagined conversation historically accurate yet humorous. The paintings are associated with their story, available on the website and by telling the stories behind these famous artworks, the artist leads us to consider them with a new eye and reflect on the place of social media today in our relationship with art, more often seen through a screen than in person. In 2018, de Valmy's work was displayed at the Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA) in Munich in the exhibition The BUNTE Art, alongside Andy Warhol and at the Barnes Foundation in the group show Let's Connect.   In 2019 she had a solo show with Michele Mariaud Gallery, NY and was the guest artist of Museum Week in NY. In December 2019, she presented an installation during the Miami art week at SCOPE Miami Beach with Kahn Gallery. In June 2020, her work was in the exhibition CONCEPT at the CICA Museum in Korea and her artwork now belongs to their permanent collection. Her paintings belong to private collections including CICA Museum, Hubert Burda Collection, Abrishamchi Family Collection, Vinik Family, Corcoran Family, CM Collection and Eileen Kaminsky Foundation.

Drawing from his background working in sign painting, Rosenquist's pieces often explored the role of advertising and consumer culture in art and society, utilizing techniques he learned making commercial art to depict popular cultural icons and mundane everyday objects.[1] While his works have often been compared to those from other key figures of the pop art movement, such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, Rosenquist's pieces were unique in the way that they often employed elements of surrealism using fragments of advertisements and cultural imagery to emphasize the overwhelming nature of ads.[2] He was a 2001 inductee into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame 26 x 43 in. This life-size bronze sculpture of Andy Warhol was done in 2005 by Jack Dowd, a local Sarasota artist who creates paintings and sculptures of artists, celebrities, and everyday people with a very human-like feel to them, and his figures are imbued with a satiric, but affectionate touch. You can see that in the Warhol sculpture here. Born in New York in 1938, Jack was inspired by his father and took up sketching and drawing at an early age. He started sculpting in the ’70s, when he lived in Plainfield, Vermont. He began with a chainsaw and blocks of wood, then started working in clay because it was more flexible: he used wire mesh to build a form, molded the clay around it and made a model, turned that into a rubber mold, and cast bronze or gypsum cement figures from the mold, and his sculptures have a touch of whimsy, avant-garde and folk art all combined in one piece. Jack moved to Sarasota in 1982 and has a private studio here called Moon River. He has had many solo exhibitions sponsored by museums and art centers across the country, including the Florida State Museum of Fine Art, Jacksonville’s Museum of Modern Art, and the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, which drew 40,000 visitors and was the best attended opening in the museum’s history. The Warhol sculpture is signed and dated “Jack Down 2005 AP3” on the back side, near the back pocket, and the Warhol sculpture stands 70 inches tall, with an 18 inch diameter base.

Lot 1607

Artist: Andy Warhol (American, 1928 - 1987). Title: "Texan [Robert Rauschenberg]". Medium: Original color letterpress print. Date: Printed 1970. Dimensions: Overall size: 9 1/2 x 9 7/8 in. (241 x 251 mm).Lot Note(s): Signed in white marker, center right. Edition of c200. Medium weight light cream uncoated wove paper. The full sheet. Fine impression. Fine condition. Comment(s): This rare letterpress print was published as part of the Warhol portfolio of eight prints which was included in the publication/portfolio "Artists & Photographs" published by Multiples, Inc., New York City, in association with Colorcraft Inc., NYC in 1970. The publication consists of a cardboard box containing artist's publications, multiples, artist's books, etc. by Warhol, Rauschenberg, Ruscha, Nauman, Gormley, Christo, Lewitt, and others. The stated edition size was 1,200 but as Peter Gidal indicates "…rumors abound that the art-box never got made in more than 800 copies, but even the origination gallery can no longer verify it. What is certain is that no "extra" copies of any of the multiples were made, and that the Gormley was in an edition of 200 and the Rauschenberg in an edition of 400. This substantiated the fact that complete boxes could never have been more than 200." Warhol's contributions were printed in different sizes, scales, and mediums. Our example is stamped verso "File Copy - Colorcraft Inc. - Please Return" indicating that it came from the Colorcraft archives. No auction records located.
