A SILVER 'BONE' CUFF BANGLE, BY ELSA PERETTI FOR TIFFANY & CO., the moulded bracelet mimicking the contours of the wrist, in silver, signed Peretti & Tiffany & Co., diameter of interior approx. 5.3cmFlirting dangerously with the line between devastating diva and shrewd businesswoman, Elsa Peretti alighted on New York fashion in the late 1960s. Initially sporting a black eye from a boyfriend soon forgotten, Peretti’s confidence quickly caught the eye of Roy Halston Frowick and she worked predominantly with him from the 70s onwards. She became immersed in a cocktail of creative personalities, often seen alongside celebrities such as Andy Warhol, Calvin Klein and Mick and Bianca Jagger. Peretti started her career in jewellery by debuting her first design in 1969 at a Giorgio di Sant’Angelo show. She then created several pieces for Halston before he introduced her to Tiffany. Peretti’s contract was finalised in 1974 and, within just six years, she was recognised as Tiffany’s leading designer, later being accredited with generating 10% of the company’s annual sales. Peretti’s use of silver revolutionised the industry as, at the time, it was not synonymous with high jewellery. She made her designs affordable for women, her work encouraging an investment in women by women – no longer was jewellery reserved as a gift from an admiring male. Instantly recognisable as one of Peretti’s most famed pieces, the bone cuff was initially inspired by her childhood memories of Rome, when she used to explore the catacombs of a Capuchin monastery. Manipulating the metal, Peretti’s design flows over the wrist, highlighting the anatomical structure below. The cuff works with the body, drawing its beauty directly from it and celebrating one of the simplest shapes of the human form. Elsa Peretti passed away in March 2021 but her timeless designs continue to be sold by Tiffany, allowing her to leave behind a legacy of creation to inspire women for years to come. signedmixed media on paper76 by 56,5cm; 105,5 by 86 by 5cm including framingThierry Guetta, professionally known as ?Mr. Brainwash?, is a French born street artist. His work is a combination of pop imagery and cultural icons often illustrated through the mediums of spray-paint, stencil work and screen-printing, lending itself to a ?street art aesthetic?. His journey into the world of art started by shadowing famous street artists such as Space Invader and Banksy, documenting their art and recording thousands of hours of footage. He quickly became fascinated with the clandestine art process, forfeiting his day job and immersing himself in the culture of street art.The Oscar nominated, Exit Through the Gift Shop 2010, was a film directed by Banksy using footage captured by Guetta. The film explores the underground world of street art, following Banksy?s famous journey through North America, however, the plot changes almost immediately and concentrates on Guetta?s adoption of the Mr. Brainwash persona. The film centres around Guetta?s rise to fame as he struggles to assemble his first exhibition, Life is Beautiful 2008. Guetta?s factory-made process depicted throughout the film directly references the pop art movement and the installation of the artworld. Through this process Guetta emphasises the commercial value of art and the process of making. Within lot 309, Work Well Together, Leonardo Da Vinci?s Mona Lisa, Walt Disney?s Micky Mouse and Andy Warhol?s iconic Soup Cans are all referenced. Work Well Together clearly demonstrates Mr. Brainwash's fascination with popular culture, using iconic artworks found throughout different periods. He merges these symbols onto one canvas in an attempt to make art more accessible to everyone. A fusion between pop art and street art. His artistic intentions are undoubtedly aligned with the original pop artists, ?producing art for everybody that can be experienced everywhere?. Masterworksfineart.com. Mr. Brainwash Biography. ROBERT INDIANA (New Castle, Indiana, USA, 1938 - Vinalhaven, Maine, USA, 2018)."LOVE.Handmade wool tapestry.Signed in the lower right corner.Size: 241 x 241 cm.Robert Indiana is one of the preeminent figures on the American art scene since the 1960s, leading the development of the assemblage technique, the Hard Edge movement, and American Pop Art. Indiana studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and also at the Edinburgh College of Art. As well as a painter, Robert Indiana has been a theatrical and costume set and costume designer, in productions such as Santa Fe Opera's The Mother of Us All, and acted in the film Eat directed by Andy Warhol. He proclaimed himself to be "the American painter of signs" and throughout his long career he explored, and at the same time constructed, the American identity through diverse iconography. His particular visual language, which could be defined as 'lyricism', marked by slogans such as HUG, EAT and the famous "LOVE". It has become the emblem that continues to unite many artistic generations and is now part of the collective unconscious worldwide. The iconic LOVE series, recognised by LO and VE stacked one on top of the other and arranged in a square, and to which our piece belongs, was first used in a set of poems written in 1958. Then, in the summer of 1965, MoMA commissioned Indiana to design the Christmas cards, finally approving this red, blue and green design. Its true semantic translation is deeply linked to Christianity and the artist's childhood, brought up according to the Church of Christ, Scientist. In an epistolary with collector Larry Aldrich, Indiana shares that there was a phrase 'God is Love' written by the founder of this church, Mary Baker Eddy, which was an unofficial motto of scientific Christianity. From this was born the idea of higher love that Indiana eventually wanted to convey through all his work from the 1960s until his death. In 2008 Indiana created a very similar image for Barack Obama's presidential campaign, in which this symbol was used for various propaganda items. The tapestry featured in our auction, while not the artist's most common technique, ultimately conveys the essence of his entire oeuvre and iconography.Robert Indiana had hundreds of solo and group exhibitions worldwide. Particularly in Spain he exhibited on three occasions, in 1992 at the Galería 57, in 2009 at the Galería Barcelona, and finally in 2012 at the Museo de Pasión in Valladolid.
