Warhol (Andy) The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again), first English edition, signed presentation inscription from the author, "To Robert F with love" and "London 1975" with a large soup can drawing "Campbell's Pea Soup" in black felt tip to front endpaper, original cloth, dust-jacket, spine sunned, light damp-staining to spine head and along lower panel top edge, some slight creasing at edges, corners a little bumped with small nicks, Cassell/Dempsey, 1975; with two association A.L.s from previous owner loosely inserted, 8vo (3) ⁂ Rare copy with the Campbell's pea soup doodle, and with a good association. Dedicated to Robert Fraser (1937-1986), the prominent London-based art dealer. Fraser introduced and promoted the work of many important British and American artists, including Andy Warhol, to the British market, and was at the forefront of modern art in Britain throughout the 1960s and 70s. The two letters accompanying this present copy, are signed and written by previous owner Jaine (?)Wilson, in which she testifies that the book was given to her personally by Robert Fraser. She recalls how, "I mentioned to him that it looked valuable and he said 'you don't understand, it would be an unsigned copy that would be valuable'".

Carl Randall House of Reeves (08/08/2011), 2023 Acrylic paint on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About CARL RANDALL is a British figurative painter whose work is based on images of modern Japan and London. A graduate of The Slade School of Fine Art, The Royal Drawing School London, and Tokyo University of Arts Japan, he is the winner of the BP Travel Award at The National Portrait Gallery, The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, The Nomura Art Prize Japan, as well as several other awards. He has had several solo exhibitions in London and Japan, with group exhibitions at The National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Academy of Arts, The Jerwood Gallery, Flowers Gallery, The Mall Galleries, Christies New York & London, Tokyo Art Award, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Arts; as well as at art fairs in Switzerland, Turkey, Japan and Taiwan. His work can be found in the collections of University College London Art Museum, Tokyo Geidai Art Museum Japan, The Royal Collection (being commissioned by HRH Prince of Wales), Foundation Carmignac Paris (joining works in their collection by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gerhard Richter), as well as in private collections in the UK, Japan, Australia and USA. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork The painting shows and is named after the 'House of Reeves', an independent furniture store in Croydon south London, run by the same family for over 150 years London. On 8th of August 2011, during the London riots, the store was burnt down. In this painting I used a found photograph showing the store on fire, but replacing the arsonists and rioters with flying saucers, and AT-St Walkers/Tie-Fighters from Star Wars. This work is coupled with another image I did in 2020, made during the Black Lives Matter protests, in which the rioters are shown as they are, and the authorities replaced with Star Wars AT-AT walkers. These kinds of themes are generally very unusual in my work, but give me an outlet for looking at social issues and my interest in sci-fi - creating images that combine cinema, surrealism and social realism. Titled: Go-See for Ocean Drive. Scene of the infamous Ocean Drive in the South Beach area of Miami Beach, Florida. Christopher Makos was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, grew up in California, and moved to New York after high school. He studied architecture in Paris and briefly worked as an apprentice to Man Ray. Andy Warhol, Makos' good friend and frequent portrait subject, once called Makos "the most modern photographer in America." His photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Tate Modern in London, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the IVAM in Valencia (Spain) and the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid. As the Vice-Chairman and President of Knoedler-Modarco, as well as close associate of billionaire industrialist and philanthropist Dr. Armand Hammer, owner and founder of Hammer Galleries, Leibovitz was a prominent figure in the New York art world in the 1970-1990s.In his role as head of one of the USA's oldest and most established galleries, Leibovitz was well-placed in the blossoming New York art scene to meet and integrate with some of the biggest names of the time, including the likes of Andy Warhol, from whom it is probable that the present work was acquired. Despite this significant role in the contemporary market, his eclectic personal collection of art was very broad; it spanned the centuries and included works by the Old Masters, Impressionists, Modern European artists such as Salvador Dalí.
