ANDY WARHOL (Pittsburgh, USA,1928-New York, USA,1987)."Box of Glitter".Cardboard, mounted on passe-partout.With stamp of the Levi Gallery (Milan).Size: 18 x 20 x 6,5 cm; 30 x 30 (passe-partout).Glossy box conceived by the artist for the first time in 1964, it was the work for which the art critic Arthur Danto declared the death of art. In his explanation, he stated that through these detergent boxes, the artist had conquered reality by making everyday objects into art. In reality, Warhol was exploring a path already opened by Duchamp in 1917, but which in this case alluded to a mass culture, marked by capitalism and strong industrialisation.Andrew Warhola, commonly known as Andy Warhol, was an American visual artist, filmmaker and music producer who played a crucial role in the birth and development of pop art. Considered in his time a guru of modernity, Warhol was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The son of Slovakian immigrants, he began studying art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology between 1945 and 1949. In the latter year, when he settled in New York, he began his career as an advertising cartoonist for various magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Seventeen and The New Yorker. At the same time he painted canvases whose subject matter was based on some element or image from the everyday environment, advertising or comics. He soon began to exhibit in various galleries. He progressively eliminated any expressionist traits from his works until he reduced them to a serial repetition of a popular element from mass culture, the world of consumerism or the media. This evolution reached its peak of depersonalisation in 1962, when he began to use a mechanical silkscreen printing process as his working method, by means of which he systematically reproduced myths of contemporary society, the most representative examples of which are the series dedicated to Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and Mao Tse-tung, as well as his famous treatment of Campbell's soup cans, all works produced during the fruitful decade of the 1960s. This appropriationism, a constant in the work of the proponents of Pop Art, extended to universal works of art. By means of mass reproduction, he succeeded in stripping the media fetishes he used of their usual referents, turning them into stereotyped icons with a purely decorative purpose, and in 1963 he set up the Factory, a workshop in which numerous figures from New York's underground culture gathered around him. The frivolity and extravagance that marked his way of life eventually established a coherent line between his work and his life. He is currently represented in the most important contemporary art museums in the world, such as the MoMA, the Metropolitan and the Guggenheim in New York, the Fukoka Museum in Japan, the Kunstmuseum in Basel, the National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome, the MUMOK in Vienna, the SMAK in Ghent and the Tate Gallery in London, as well as in the museums that bear his name in Pittsburgh and Medzilaborce (Slovakia).

ZAO WOU KI (Beijing, 1921 - Nyon, Switzerland, 2013).Untitled, from the Suite Olympic Centennial, 1992.Lithograph on 270 gsm Vélin d'Arches paper, copy 110/250.Hand signed and justified. This work is part of the "Suite Olympic Centennial", complete edition 110/250, which will be auctioned on 27 September 2022, in 50 consecutive lots numbered 35245230 to 35245280.Measurements: 90 x 63 cm.Zao Wou Ki is the second most sought-after post-war artist in the world and the sixth most expensive of all time. In the first half of 2018, his sales were only behind those of stars such as Picasso, Monet, Modigliani and Andy Warhol. At the end of 2018, one of his paintings was sold for 56.5 million euros at auction at Sotheby's. The work made Wou-Ki the most expensive Asian artist in history.Zao Wou Ki was born into a Franco-Chinese family and grew up in a highly cultured environment, interested in the arts and sciences. He studied calligraphy as a child, an aspect that would influence his mature work, and later trained in painting at the Hangzhou College of Fine Arts from 1935-1941. A few years later, in 1948, he settled in Paris, in the Montparnasse district, where he followed the artistic courses of Émile Othon Friesz and came into contact with the contemporary artistic avant-garde. He began to experiment with lithography, a technique which he eventually mastered, following his contact with Desjobert. He holds a solo exhibition at the Galerie Creuze in May 1949, with a presentation written by Bernard Dorival, curator of the Musée National d'Art Moderne. In January 1951 Pierre Loeb visits Wou-Ki's studio with Henri Michaux, organising an exhibition at the Galerie Pierre for June, thus laying the foundations for a close collaborative relationship that would last six years. He held regular exhibitions at the Pierre Gallery and met I. M. Pei and his wife Eileen, opening his circle of exhibitions in Switzerland, London, Basel and Lausanne, as well as in New York, Washington and Chicago. His painting is eminently abstract and colourist, strongly influenced by the work of Paul Klee, for its expressionist and emotive abstraction. He tends to work with large masses of intense and contrasting colour, often creating works of large dimensions, as well as diptychs or triptychs. They are often explosions of colour, germinal "big bangs", the origin of a world in creation, as we can see in this lithograph. Delicate patches of blue and mauve intermingle with some grey tones.

Andy Warhol. Interview. Umfangreiche Sammlung von 159 Einzelheften der ersten neunzehn Jahrgänge. New York, Eigenverlag / Brant Publ., 1969-1989. Folio. Vast collection of 159 numbers of the legendary pop-art magazine from the first 19 years of its existence. Original illustrated wrappers (rubbed, bumped, a few covers with ball pen marginalia). Loosely inserted in 18 new chemises in bright colours in 18 blue cardboard slipcases. - See above for a listing of some of the early numbers. - The covers with colour offset portraits partially by Richard F. Bernstein among others as listed above. - This is a hard-to-find set without duplicates of the legendary magazine Andy Warhol self-published from 1969 during the greatest period of his Factory. Originally based on Warhol's tape recordings of parties, the mostly unedited "interviews" in written form, combined with large-format graphic advertisements and photos, offer a brilliant insight into the - not only New York - cultural scene of the time and what moved the Factory's employees, guests and muses. Alongside Warhol, other celebrities such as Bianca Jagger or Truman Capote later increasingly wrote their own contributions. In the 1980s, Warhol left the management of the magazine to Bob Colacello, under whose influence it gradually transformed into a fashion magazine. - A set hardly to be obtained in this quantity any more without duplicates. - Uncut, some browning due to paper, partially with foldmarks and backed defects, otherwise overall very well preserved.
