2017 Aston Martin DB9 GT Volante Registration no. not registered Chassis no. SCFFDAFM3HGB17559•Historic last-of-the-line model•Built to Swiss specifications•Believed one owner from new•Offered from storage•Circa 100km on the odometerFootnotes:'The Aston Martin DB9 is a thoroughbred sports car with GT levels of comfort and refinement. Combining Aston Martin's unique character with an uncompromising design philosophy, the DB9 was borne out of a synthesis of traditional craftsmanship, high-tech manufacturing, modern components and use of the finest materials.' - Aston Martin.Launched in 2003 as successor to the DB7, the DB9 was the first model to be built at Aston Martin's new factory at Gaydon, Warwickshire. Like its predecessor, the DB9 was styled by Ian Callum, with finishing touches applied by Henrik Fisker. State-of-the-art manufacturing techniques were employed in making the aluminium/composite body, which was robotically assembled using a combination of self-piercing rivets and adhesive. Although some 25% lighter than that of the DB7, this advanced bodyshell possesses double the structural stiffness. The DB9 was powered by a development of the 5.9-litre, 48-valve, V12 engine found in the DB7 Vantage producing 470bhp, an output sufficient to propel the aerodynamic coupé to a top speed of 306km/h (190mph) with 60mph attainable from a standing start in a neck-snapping 4.8 seconds. The aluminium engine was mounted as far back as possible in the chassis, while the transmission/final drive was positioned ahead of the rear axle, resulting in 85% of the car's mass being sited between the axles and a perfect 50/50 front/rear weight distribution. Transmission options were a six-speed manual or six-speed 'Touchtronic 2' semi-automatic.Inside the DB9 one finds the typically elegant, luxurious and supremely comfortable hand crafted interior traditionally associated with Aston Martin, featuring primarily wood and leather trim as well as the latest in modern technology, subtly deployed. Although scheduled for a slightly higher production level than previous Aston Martins, the DB9 remained an exclusive product affordable only by a privileged few. Its price at launch was £111,000, with the Volante some £14,000 more. After a dozen-or-so years in production, the DB9 bowed out with its final edition: the DB9 GT. Introduced in 2015, the GT had a power output of 540bhp and maximum torque of 457lb/ft; acceleration times improved marginally while the DB9's top speed remained unchanged. Production ceased in 2016.Believed owned from new by the current vendor, this DB9 GT Volante was built for the Swiss market and left the factory finished in Cumberland Grey with Bitter Chocolate interior trim. Kept in storage, the Aston comes with a scan of an old Middle-Eastern registration document and will require re-commissioning before further use. Please note that if this vehicle is to stay in the UK, it will be subject to Import VAT at the standard rate of 20% and Import Duty at 10% (plus VAT) on the hammer price. Lot 111

1996 Aston Martin Vantage Coupé Registration no. not registered Chassis no. SCFDAM2S9SBL70151•One of the fastest and most powerful supercars of its day•Manual transmission•Stored since acquisition in 2007•Requires re-commissioningFootnotes:'Brutal' was a word used more than once to described the fastest Aston Martin ever on its introduction for 1993, but as the Vantage had no less than 550bhp available to propel its two tons, the choice can only be judged fair comment. After almost 20 years in production, Aston's V8 had been updated for the 1990s as the Virage. A consummate fast tourer, the Virage left room at the top of the range for an out-and-out sports car, hence the Vantage. Although the two models appeared superficially similar few panels were shared, while beneath the skin the Vantage chassis boasted the kind of extensive re-engineering required to cope with the massive increase in performance. The latter came courtesy of a blown version of Aston's 5,340cc V8, twin mechanically driven Eaton superchargers being preferred to turbo-charging on the grounds of superior throttle response. Quite apart from its stupendous maximum output of 550bhp, remarkable enough in itself, the Vantage engine is monstrously torquey, producing 550lb/ft at 4,000rpm, a figure that made even the mighty the Chrysler Viper V10's 450lb/ft seem puny by way of comparison. And for those who found 550bhp insufficient, there was the Works Service-developed 'V600' enhancement that brought with it an additional 50 horsepower together with upgrades to the wheels, suspension and brakes. On test with Autocar magazine, a development Vantage raced to 60mph in a Ferrari 512TR-destroying 4.6 seconds, reaching the 'ton' just 5.5 seconds later. The standing kilometre was achieved in 23.1 seconds with the speedometer registering close to 150mph, and although a true top speed figure proved unobtainable, the Vantage was reported as having already recorded 191mph while on test in France. Its price at launch was as eye-watering as the performance figures: a cool £177,600. Only 240 were built between October 1992 and June 1999, making the Vantage an exclusive car even by Aston Martin's standards. This left-hand drive Vantage was sold new to a client in Paris, France having left the factory finished in Litchfield Black with matching interior, although accompanying copy paperwork suggests it was originally intended to be Buckinghamshire Green and destined for Germany. It is possible that it was a cancelled order or similar at the time. The current vendor purchased this manual-transmission car from British & Sportscars of Overijse, Belgium in December 2007. The bill of sale recorded the mileage at the time as 34,850km. The car is likely to have been stored since then, as indicated by its current odometer reading of 34,853km. Re-commissioning will be required before the car returns to the road. Accompanying documentation consists of copies of the Car Record Card, original warranty, 2007 bill of sale and cancelled Luxembourg Carte Grise. Please note that if this vehicle is to stay in the UK, it will be subject to Import VAT at the standard rate of 20% and Import Duty at 10% (plus VAT) on the hammer price. Lot 116

1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S Coupé Coachwork by Carrozzeria Bertone Registration no. FWB 932H Chassis no. 4256 Engine no. 30421•One of only 140 'S' models built•Matching numbers•Converted from left- to right-hand drive early in its life•Present ownership since 1995•Used sparingly since acquisition•Potentially most rewarding restoration projectFootnotes:'But step back for a minute and work out what makes the Miura so special. In 1966 there was nothing like it. Only racing cars and the obscure little French Bonnet/Matra Djet had mid-mounted engines. Ferrari's road-going mainstay was the traditional front-engined 275 GTB. So when tractor magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini stole the attention of the Geneva Salon crowd with the Miura, people were shocked as much by its audacious mechanical layout as they were by its era-defining and stunningly gorgeous styling.' – Classic Cars, July 2004. Ferruccio Lamborghini's bold challenge to Ferrari had begun in 1964 with the 350GT but it was the arrival of the Miura - arguably the founder of the supercar class - that established Lamborghini as a major manufacturer of luxury sporting cars. Prior to the model's official debut at the 1966 Geneva Salon, Lamborghini cars were respected for their impressive mechanical specifications but they somehow lacked a distinctive persona. All this changed with the arrival of the Miura, named after Don Eduardo Miura, a famous breeder of fighting bulls. The Miura project first surfaced as a rolling chassis displayed at the 1965 Turin Motor Show but was not expected to become a production reality. Nevertheless, by the time of the Geneva Salon the following year, the first completed car was ready for unveiling to an awe-struck press and public. Writing in his book, Lamborghini (1985), Jean-Marc Sorel had this to say about the Miura's significance: 'Thanks to the Miura, Lamborghini made a breakthrough unsurpassed in automotive annals, even reaching the point of worrying Ferrari and Maserati on their own territory, its two powerful neighbours...'The car's technical specification was breathtaking in its sophistication and complexity. Designed by Gianpaolo Dallara, the Miura carried its transversely mounted engine amidships in a box-section platform chassis, the latter clothed in stunning coupé coachwork styled by Bertone's Marcello Gandini. Like the contemporary 400GT, the Miura used the 4.0-litre version of Lamborghini's Giotto Bizzarrini-designed four-cam V12. With 350bhp available, the Miura was capable of shattering performance, a top speed of 180mph (290km/h) being claimed. Production examples were independently tested at more than 170mph, confirming that the Miura was the world's fastest production car. Perhaps surprisingly, Lamborghini's assessment of demand for its new baby would prove to be way out: instead of the 20 sales expected for the first year of production (1967), they ended up delivering 108 cars.Early in 1968, after the 125th car had been completed, the steel used in the chassis was increased from 0.9 to 1mm in thickness, while from April that year customers could specify a leather interior. They also had a wide choice of eyeball-popping exterior colours that would be unthinkable on a Ferrari, Maserati or – heaven forbid – an Aston Martin. It all helped to cement the Miura's reputation as the brash new kid on the block. Initial development had concentrated on chassis strengthening, these improvements being consolidated in the more powerful Miura 'S', for spinto (tuned), introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1968. Produced from January 1969, the Miura P400S featured a more-powerful (370bhp) engine and was outwardly distinguishable from the preceding model by its wider tyres. Other improvements included a quieter transmission, electric windows, better quality interior fittings, leather trim and a re-routed exhaust system that left room for a larger luggage compartment. Later, Series II examples benefited from ventilated brake discs that markedly reduced fade. Around 140 were built before the introduction of the SV version in 1971. Production of the original P400 effectively ended when the successor 'S' version was introduced, by which time a little over 470 of these wonderful cars had been produced. The 'S' would not be so numerous, only 140 examples leaving the factory between 1969 and 1971. Bertone build number '409', the Miura S we offer was delivered on 8th October 1969 in left-hand drive configuration. The car was originally finished in red with black interior and equipped with air conditioning. Hand-written notes on file and the factory records state that the Miura was purchased new by a Mr Drummond. According to the notes, this was playboy George Drummond, one-time racing team patron, who owned the Lamborghini until HMRC impounded the car for legal reasons. The Miura was retained until 1974 before being sold. The first owner recorded on DVLA scans of old logbooks is a Craig Dent of Derby, then a Mark Denton of Sheffield followed by an Alastair Laurie on 31st March 1976 (in Dalbeattie). Previous owner Mel Farrar recalls purchasing the car from Mr Laurie and driving it back from Scotland in the snow! In his ownership the engine was rebuilt, and he believed that the car was converted from left- to right-hand drive while in Scotland. The Miura was acquired by the late Malcolm Bishop in 1995, since when it has been registered in his name and that of his companies, and has been driven sparingly (see minor invoices for parts on file). Marque specialist Iain Tyrrell inspected '4256' in November 2022 and Bonhams would like to thank him for preparing the accompanying condition report, a summary of which is as follows:This car's body/chassis could be described as a solid but typical 'pre-restoration' Miura. All visible chassis areas are sound but covered in non-factory paint and surface rust. The front floor section, ahead of the bulkhead, has been replaced with a new welded-in section at some time, either due to rust or light damage (over a small bump for example). There is an extra plate welded under the chassis rear cross-member, probably to cover dents; quite usual, as this is where Miuras are commonly jacked-up without proper care. The chassis and structure's visible areas again show no appreciable signs of accident damage/repair. This is reinforced by the Bertone build number (always 100 more than the actual factory build number) '509' being still stamped with the correct font on all areas, including doors, front and rear clams, bulkhead and rear slats. The paintwork and chrome are aged. The boot floor has some cardboard covering up a small aluminium section that is missing. The rear light surrounds and other sundry items are missing from the body. The front and rear suspension have been cosmetically restored, albeit not with correct finishes. There is play in virtually all the front ball-joints, and the R/H/R road spring is rubbing against the damper. It should be noted that the front hubs require immediate attention having been inadvertently exchanged left to right during the previous front suspension repainting. This is a serious but easily rectified safety issue, but currently the wheel spinners undo rather than self-tighten when the car is driven. All five wheels are the original magnesium-alloy Campagnolos. They all have paint reaction/poor paint issues. The tubeless tyres have been fitted with tubes and no protective valve sleeves. The original matching-numbers engine is in good order, with good oil pressure and acceptable cylinder leak-down readings (list available). It is very likely that a proper service and tune-up will lower these readings still further. The carburettors are out of adjustment. The cylinder head mating surfaces are showi... 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mark 2 Vantage Sports Saloon Registration no. not UK registered Chassis no. DB6MK2/4163/R Engine no. 400/4456/VC•One of 71 DB6 Mark 2 Vantages•Automatic transmission•Present ownership since 2008•Requires re-commissioningFootnotes:'On taking over the DB6 one is immediately astonished by its flexibility. In spite of multiple carburettor chokes, it will idle through traffic like a dowager's limousine and will accelerate on a high gear in a manner which is rare even among the biggest V8 power units.' - John Bolster, Autosport, 21st October 1966 (reviewing the DB6 Vantage). The culmination of Aston-Martin's long-running line of 'DB' six-cylinder sports saloons, the DB6 was introduced in 1965. Recognisably related to the Touring-styled DB4 of 1958, the DB6 abandoned the Superleggera body structure of its predecessors in favour of a conventional steel fabrication. The wheelbase was now 4' longer than before, resulting in an extensive re-style with more-raked windscreen, raised roofline and reshaped rear quarter windows. Opening front quarter lights made a re-appearance, but the major change was at the rear where a Kamm-style tail with spoiler improved the aerodynamics, greatly enhancing stability at high speeds. The Tadek Marek-designed six-cylinder engine had been enlarged to 3,995cc for the preceding DB5, and remained unchanged. Power output on triple SU carburettors was 282bhp, rising to 325bhp in Vantage specification. Borg-Warner automatic transmission was offered alongside the standard ZF five-speed gearbox, and for the first time there was optional power-assisted steering. Introduced in July 1969, the DB6 Mark 2 incorporated many components shared with the new DBS, most obviously the latter's wider wheels, which necessitated flaring the front and rear wheelarches. All Mark 2 Vantages came with the highest (325bhp) 'C' state of tune, while all cars benefited from power-assisted steering as standard and could be ordered with AE Brico electronic fuel injection. Production lasted until November 1970, during which time 245 DB6 Mark 2s were manufactured, 71 of which were to Vantage specification, while only 46 left the factory fitted with the optional fuel injection. '4163/R' comes with copy build details revealing that it was originally finished in Dubonnet Rosso with natural interior trim and first registered as '4 TTA', subsequently bearing the registration OCK 140H. The chassis stamping of DB6MK2FI/4163/R reveals as well that this was a car destined to be fitted with fuel injection, although Weber carburettors are now fitted. This car also has automatic transmission, giving it what must be a particularly rare specification. Recorded in the AMOC Register, the DB6 was purchased by the current vendor from marque specialist Desmond Smail in May 2008. Offered from long-term storage, the car will require re-commissioning before further use. Accompanying documentation consists of scans of the 2008 bill of sale, copy build details, and copy old-style V5C Registration Certificate. 1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante X-Pack Registration no. F522 EVG Chassis no. SCFCV81V2KTR15765 Engine no. V/580/5765/X•Three owners from new•Extensive service history•Present ownership since 1998•5.7-litre engine•Outstanding condition•Matching engine and chassis numbersFootnotes:'Anyone wondering why Aston Martin bother to make their own vee-8 when so many big American ones are so cheaply available need take only one look at the performance data... for the best explanation in the world. Whatever the undisclosed output of the Aston V8, it is enough to rocket this heavy car to 60mph from rest in exactly six seconds and to 100mph in only 14.7 seconds. Much more than this, we were able to reach 138 mph from rest in a mile and on the Continent record a mean maximum speed of 161.5 mph.' - Autocar, 8th July 1971.With the resurrection of the 'Vantage' name in 1977, Aston Martin enthusiasts everywhere breathed a sigh of relief; previously applied to high-power versions of the DB six-cylinder cars, it had been dormant since the V8's arrival back in 1969. A heavier car than its six-cylinder predecessor, the V8 had suffered as emissions legislation became ever more strangulating, leading to concern that Aston Martin's traditional performance image might be lost. The arrival of the Vantage dispelled any such worries. Propelling Aston's V8 back into the supercar league was a tuned version of the existing 5,340cc engine breathing through a quartet of 48mm Weber carburettors rather than the standard 42mm units. Valves and ports were enlarged and the camshafts changed, the end result being an estimated maximum output of around 375bhp. Chassis changes were minimal apart from the adoption of bigger ventilated discs all round and low-profile Pirelli tyres. The Vantage was, nevertheless, readily distinguishable from the standard product by virtue of its blocked-off bonnet scoop, blanked air intake, front chin spoiler, and lip on the boot lid. Produced to satisfy demands from the USA, the Volante convertible debuted in 1978, but it was not until 1986 that it became available to Vantage specification, which by this time meant around 400bhp. Along with the Vantage engine and bonnet came flared wheelarches, a boot spoiler (a feature the Volante had previously lacked) and an extended front spoiler, while glassfibre extensions replaced the model's hitherto characteristic chromed sill covers. The result was a muscular, aggressive-looking car that could justifiably claim to be the world's fastest convertible, all the more so when it came with the optional 'X-Pack' engine (like this example) which, depending on the state of tune, had up to 432bhp available. A total of 166 Vantage Volantes had been completed by the end of production in December 1989 making it one of the rarer and more collectible of post-war Aston Martins. Some 78 were right-hand drive. This quite exceptional X-Pack-equipped Vantage Volante comes with a most comprehensive history stretching back to when the car was sold new by Aston Martin agents HWM of Walton-on-Thames to its first owner, a Mr G Burbidge of Village Properties in Westerham, Kent. The Aston was first registered on 4th April 1989. Routine servicing was undertaken initially by HWM, followed by various recognised marque specialists including Stratton Motor Company, Pugsley & Lewis and, more recently, Vantage Engineering. Detailed servicing/maintenance records are on file together with a copy of the factory build sheet recording the car's original specification. On 17th April 1992 the Volante was acquired by its second owner, Mr James Johnston of Southeast London, who kept the car until March 1998 when it was purchased by the current (third) owner. Its custodian for the last 24 years, the latter has cared for the Volante in a most exemplary fashion, sparing no expense to keep it in tip-top order. These considerable works included having Pugsley & Lewis rebuild the engine in 2014, increasing its capacity to 5.7 litres in the process. Despite having, reluctantly, decided to part with his pride and joy, the vendor has continued to restore and improve the Volante, recently spending nearly £40,000 with Vantage Engineering on various works including a repaint in original Rolls-Royce Balmoral Green. The accompanying comprehensive service history (and MoTs for the period 2006-2022) testifies to the veracity of the recorded mileage (currently 26,908), though it should be noted that HWM's 1995 paperwork records the then total incorrectly. A wonderful opportunity to own what must be one of the very best examples of this rare Aston Martin model currently available. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

2017 Force India-Mercedes VJM10 Formula 1 Racing Single-Seater Chassis no. VJM10-01• Offered without reserve• Offered directly from the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team• Nine points-scoring finishesFootnotes:Offered in show-car condition less engine and transmission. Here Bonhams offers this most attractively presented, ten-times-raced, modern-era Formula 1 car preserved in non-running 'show car' display condition. It is offered as assembled in show car form around its original 2017 monocoque chassis, but with bodywork and livery representing the taken-over and renamed team's 2019 Racing Point RP19 Formula 1 contender. This is an historically significant Formula 1 car since at core it was one of the vital tools which carried the relatively under-funded and tiny Force India team to an incredible fourth place finish in the 2017 Formula 1 Constructors' Championship. Chassis 'VJM10-01's racing record during its active period in the Force India team's 2017 campaign – for which it was driven by Esteban Ocon to no fewer than nine points-scoring finishes from its nine starts - is as follows:Australian GP, Melbourne – Esteban Ocon – q.13th – 10th – points-scoring finishChinese GP, Shanghai - Esteban Ocon – q.17th – 10th– points-scoring finishBahrain GP, Sakhir - Esteban Ocon – q.14th – 10th– points-scoring finishRussian GP, Sochi - Esteban Ocon – q.10th – 7th– points-scoring finishSpanish GP, Catalunya - Esteban Ocon – q.10th – 5th– points-scoring finishMonaco GP, Monte Carlo - Esteban Ocon – q.15th – 12thCanadian GP, Montreal - Esteban Ocon – q.9th – 6th– points-scoring finishAzerbaijan GP, Baku - Esteban Ocon – q.7th – 6th– points-scoring finishAustrian GP, Red Bull Ring - Esteban Ocon – q.9th – 8th– points-scoring finishBritish GP, Silverstone - Esteban Ocon – q.7th – 8th– points-scoring finishAs can be clearly seen from the above racing record, here is a small-team Formula 1 car which punched way above its supposed weight at World Championship level when guided by the promising young French driver – today a Grand Prix winner, of course, having triumphed in the 2021 Hungarian GP when driving for the Alpine (Renault) team. Esteban José Jean-Pierre Ocon-Khelfane is a French racing driver whose father was a Normandy garage owner of Spanish extraction, and who sold both the family home and the garage to help fund his son's early racing career. By the age of 14 Esteban had achieved such karting success he was signed up by an affiliate of Renault F1 enabling him to learn the ropes of world-class circuit racing in Formula Renault single-seaters 2012-13. Over the following three years he worked his way through Formula 3, winning the 2014 European F3 Championship and in 2015 he won the GP3 title while also serving as reserve driver for Renault F1. When another Force India driver candidate fell ill, Ocon tested for the team in Barcelona, but in 2016 made his Formula 1 debut with Manor Racing, before being signed for Force India's 2017 campaign, teamed with the admired Mexican Sergio 'Checo' Pérez. While the pair had some controversial moments during that 2017 season, Pérez and Ocon both finished so consistently well that they placed seventh and eighth overall in the Drivers' World Championship standings come year's end. And only three teams accumulated more Formula 1 Constructors' Championship points than Force India; Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull. With these VJM10 cars, Force India headed the likes of Williams, Renault and McLaren that year.Focus of the Force India VJM10 Formula 1 design was to prove competitive under revised Formula 1 technical regulations for 2017. The Mercedes power unit and gearbox defined the general layout of the VJM10 as a long-wheelbase car, but the Force India technical team under Andy Green pursued a high-rake aerodynamic concept in contrast to the works Mercedes team's low-rake preference. Chief aerodynamicist Simon Phillips worked with the Toyota wind tunnel in Cologne, Germany. Team direction was by Otmar Szafnauer, under whom Force India displayed an immensely practical, common-sense approach to racing strategy, particularly with tyre choice. Some rear-end instability became characteristic of the VJM10 design but it was improved as the season progressed though never fully corrected. This trait was believed to be aero-derived but certain aspects of the rear suspension geometry had been compromised because the Mercedes gearbox's suspension pick-up points had been tailored to Mercedes' own low-rake concept, whereas Force India's was increasingly high-rake – the cars running nose down/tail high to achieve their optimum performance. Through the 2017 season the four Force India-Mercedes VJM10s built saw the design's superior reliability and consistency offset its mid-field rival Renault's greater development budget and pace. The Force India Formula 1 racing team was founded in time to enter competition in the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship series, but the organisation's background dated back as far as 1991 when former racing driver Eddie Jordan's rapidly-growing équipe first entered the premier-league Grand Prix racing category, operating from its headquarters adjacent to the historic Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, England. Jordan Formula 1 enjoyed many years in World Championship contention, winning four Grand Prix rounds and securing third place overall in the 1999 Constructors' Championship. However, fortunes deteriorated thereafter and eventually in 2005 Eddie Jordan sold the team to the Midland Group. Midland F1 Racing struggled at that level until owner Alex Shnaider sold the team to Dutch-managed entity Spyker Cars in mid-2006.Spyker F1 took one World Championship point in 2007 and - after driver Markus Winkelhock briefly led the rain-swept European Grand Prix at the Neue Nürburgring - the team was once again sold, this time for 88-million Euros to the hyper-enthusiastic Indian chairman of the United Breweries Group and Michiel Mol, Spyker's contemporary Formula One Director. The venture became renamed the Force India Formula One Team for the 2008 season. Led by the experienced Colin Kolles, with Mike Gascoyne as chief technology officer, and drivers Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella, the revised team finished tenth place in that year's Constructors' Championship, best placing being tenth in the Spanish Grand Prix.Force India retained the same drivers for 2009 when its VJM02 cars were powered by Mercedes-Benz engines, with McLaren-Mercedes gearboxes, hydraulic systems and kinetic energy recovery systems. Force India took its first pole position at the year's Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, when Fisichella qualified fastest, and finally finished second overall. For the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Adrian Sutil qualified second before finishing fourth and setting fastest lap of the race. Ninth in the end-of-season Constructors' table did not reflect vast strides made by Force India that season. The team's other podium finishes would go on to include five third-places, in the 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix, 2015 Russian Grand Prix, 2016 Monaco Grand Prix, 2016 European Grand Prix and the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, all achieved by Sergio Pérez. In 2018, the team's assets were bought by a consortium of investors, named Racing Point UK and led by Lawrence Stroll, the father of then Williams d... 1976 Aston Martin Lagonda Series 1 7.0-Litre Saloon Registration no. not UK registered Chassis no. L/12007/RCAC Engine no. V/540/2007•One of only eight made•Extensively upgraded by R S Williams Ltd•Stored since acquisition in 2008•Requires re-commissioningFootnotes:The Lagonda brand had been moribund for a decade when Aston Martin revived it in 1974 as the model name for a sensational new four-door saloon based on the existing two-door V8. A prototype ('MP/230/1') had been used by David Brown in 1969 but the project would not come to fruition until after his departure and Aston Martin's acquisition by Company Developments. Launched at the London Motor Show in October 1974, the new Lagonda was 305mm (12') longer in the wheelbase than the two-door V8 whose engine and running gear it shared and to which it bore an understandably strong resemblance. Priced at £14,040, including Purchase Tax, at the time of its launch, the Lagonda cost 24% more than the contemporary V8 and thus was one very expensive motor car. Unfortunately, the ongoing Middle East 'oil crisis' and other economic woes meant that the market for a 160-mph luxury saloon had declined sharply. An exclusive model even by Aston Martin standards, the Lagonda was catalogued until June 1976, by which time only seven had been made. Chassis numbers ranged from '12001' to '12007', while a further example - '12008' - was sanctioned later. Of the seven cars built in period, five were completed with automatic transmission and only two with the ZF five-speed manual gearbox, '12007', the car offered here, being one of them.In the early 2000s, '12007' was extensively re-engineered and enhanced by respected marque specialists R S Williams Ltd, and post-completion was featured in Octane magazine (Issue 7, 2004). The project took two people a year to complete, consuming 4,000 hours at an estimated cost of £100,000. Suitably and sympathetically modified for everyday use, the Lagonda incorporates the electronic communications systems required by the business user of the day; nevertheless, retaining originality was always an intention and all the modifications are reversible. Already a powerful car, the Lagonda was endowed with even greater urge courtesy of R S Williams' 7-litre conversion. The conversion places particular emphasis on torque, producing a substantial 550lb/ft and 480bhp against the estimated 350lb/ft and 320bhp of the 5.3-litre original, increases that more than offset the weight gain associated with the Lagonda's extra equipment. This in turn necessitated up-rating the Chrysler Torqueflite automatic transmission, which has replaced the original ZF manual 'box. The current vendor purchased the Lagonda at Bonhams' sale at Aston Martin Works Service in May 2008 (Lot 320). Kept in storage since then, the car will require re-commissioning before further use. Offered with copies of its Car Record Card and Middle Eastern registration document, '12007' represents an exciting opportunity to acquire an extensively upgraded example of one of the rarest and most exclusive of post-war Aston Martin products. Please note that if this vehicle is to remain in the UK, it will be subject to Import VAT at 5% on the hammer price to clear customs. 1950 Aston Martin Two-Litre Sports Drophead Coupé (DB1) Registration no. not registered Chassis no. AMC/50/10 Engine no. EN/49/11•The first post-war Aston Martin model•One of only 15 production cars made•Stored since acquisition in 2007•Requires re-commissioningFootnotes:This Two Litre Sports is a fine example of the model that ushered in the 'David Brown' era at Aston Martin. Successful industrialist David Brown had bought the struggling Aston Martin concern in 1946, and the following year added Lagonda to his expanding motor-manufacturing empire. When Brown bought Aston Martin he acquired the Atom - a 2.0-litre four-cylinder prototype intended for post-war production - plus 'a few rusty old machine tools and the services of the Atom's designer, Claude Hill, who was very good...'. The chassis of the Two Litre Sports was a direct development of the Atom's, being of tubular construction and featuring independent front suspension by means of trailing arms, and a well-located live rear axle. Coil springs were used all round, plus a torsion bar at the front. A departure from Aston Martin's customary overhead-camshaft type, the 1,970cc overhead-valve engine was intended to be more reliable and easier to service. The gearbox was a David Brown four-speed unit, and there were Girling drum brakes all round. With the Lagonda purchase had come the services of their remarkably talented body stylist, Frank Feeley. Feeley designed the drophead coupé body for the Two Litre Sports, based on sketches he had made pre¬-war for the Lagonda V12. This modern, streamlined shape was very different from the traditional Aston Martin style, and its trend-setting influence can be detected in other handsome contemporary designs such as the Sunbeam Alpine. A foretaste of future glories was provided in 1948 when a stripped-for-racing Two Litre Sports won the Spa 24 Hours Race. With the DB2 ready for release, manufacture of the Two Litre Sports (retrospectively known as the 'DB1') was halted in mid-1950 after only 15 production models had been made, plus one Team Car. It is thus the rarest of all the 'David Brown' Aston Martin production models. Chassis number '10' is recorded in the AMOC Register as having attended the Le Mans Historic meeting in 1975 and 1978, and the AMOC Luxembourg Slalom in 1985 where it won the Members' Choice Trophy. The owner in 1985 was a Mrs Geisler. Otherwise the car's history is not known, though copies of old German registration papers and other documents on file indicate that it spent some time in that country before being shipped to the USA. The current vendor purchased the Aston from Tom Papadopoulos' Autosport Designs of New York, USA in May 2007, since when it has been kept in storage (copy bill of sale on file). Offered for re-commissioning, 'AMC/50/10' represents a possibly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the serious collector to own one of these ultra-rare and historic Aston Martins. 1961 Bentley S2 Continental Drophead Coupé Coachwork by Park Ward Ltd Registration no. not registered Chassis no. BC4LBY•The ultimate in motoring luxury in its day•One of 63 Park Ward-bodied left-hand drive dropheads•Delivered new in the UK•Present ownership since 2004•Stored since acquisitionFootnotes:Introduced in the autumn of 1959, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II and Bentley S2 appeared externally unchanged from their Silver Cloud and S-Type predecessors, though their performance was considerably enhanced by the new 6,230cc aluminium-alloy V8 engine. 'The Bentley S2, with its sister Rolls-Royce models, gives high-speed travel in silence and luxury, while the driver and passengers enjoy the sense of well being that only British craftsmanship can give. The V8 engine, with its flashing acceleration, certainly contributes to the result and is a definite step forward in Rolls-Royce technique,' enthused Autosport. There were few significant changes to the running gear, though power-assisted steering was now standard and the manual gearbox had been dropped, Rolls-Royce's own four-speed automatic transmission being the sole offering. The Continental version of the Bentley remained, as ever, exclusively a coachbuilt car. The firms of H J Mulliner, Park Ward, James Young, and Hooper (with a solitary example) all offered bodies on the Continental S2 chassis, which differed from the standard version by virtue of its four-leading-shoe front brakes, shorter radiator and, up to chassis number 'BC99BY', higher gearing. Of these four, James Young and Hooper would soon cease coachbuilding, leaving only Rolls-Royce-owned Mulliner and Park Ward to carry on a noble tradition, with Park Ward building the S2 Continental drophead coupés and Mulliner the saloons. Chassis number 'BC4LBY' is one of 125 drophead coupés built by Park Ward on the S2 Continental chassis, of which 63 were left-hand drive like this example. This car was delivered new in the UK in September 1961 and first owned by one R Lang. The original registration was '100 AGF'. An advertisement on file dated May 2003 states that the Bentley had been restored in Switzerland and was a '1st class trophy winner'.
