A Regency ebonised and gilt decorated settee, the padded back above scrolling padded arms, cushion seat and a fluted apron, standing on fluted spayed legs with brass caps and casters, 214cm wide, 76cm deep, 79cm high. Provenance: Purchased in 1945 from Unwater House, Newnham on Severn, Glos, home to Sir Russell Kerr. Sir Russell's son was Captain Ralph Kerr CBE, Commanding Captain of HMS Hood, the largest warship in the world when commissioned in 1920. Her sinking, against the German battleship Bismark, is one of the most famous naval engagements in history
