A GEORGE III CARVED PADOUK CHAIR-BACK SETTEEANGLO-CHINESE, LATE 18TH CENTURYThe quadruple oval backs with pierced splats headed by stylised sunflowers and stiff leaves, the serpentine stuffed seat covered in damask, on stop-fluted tapered square legs headed by foliate-carved lancet capitals90cm high, 186cm wide, 50cm deep Catalogue Note: Whilst the present chair-back settee does not appear to be based exactly on an English original, it draws inspiration from the chair designs of Hepplewhite and Sheraton. An example of an Anglo-Chinese chair of a similar date featuring a related splat pattern is illustrated in David S.
