A George III style mahogany framed settee, large form, upholstered in foliate patterned cream and yellow material and raised on eight foliate and shell carved cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet. Length 84 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The settee is generally very presentable. The upholstery is clearly fairly recent and in generally very good order. If the colour suits then there is no need to replace. The back is generally reasonably solid. There is however looseness of the joint where the left hand facing arm joins the back. Both arm supports are a little loose but perfectly serviceable. The four front legs are generally in good condition. They are structurally sound. There is a small section of carving missing to the top of the canted angle on both the right and left hand legs. This is minimal. The rear legs which are also carved and have claw and ball feet are generally in good condition and structurally solid.
A large settee, originally purchased from Harrods, with roll ends and loose cushions, length of back 89 ins, and raised on turned front legs terminating in brass castors. CONDITION REPORT: The cushions are down filled. The settee is in extremely good condition and seems to have had very little wear. It is structurally extremely sound. The legs are in good condition. There do not appear to be any marks on the fabric. The settee has come to us from a very good home from a non-smoking family.
A pair of Victorian settees, of shaped outline, each raised on three well turned front legs, with three splayed rear legs and in the manner of Howard & Sons. Each width 72 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The settees require a complete strip down and restoration. The upholstery may well be original and is in very poor condition. All of the front turned legs are original and other than being scuffed are in good order with original castors. They are not loose. Each settee has three rear none turned legs which are also original with original castors. They are also solid and undamaged with the exception of surface scuffs. The castors are original, whilst all feet are firm and not loose at the joints the backs of both settees do have some movement. As stated a full stripped down is required but we would have thought the settee frames are generally in reasonable condition but will require tightening at the joints. We cannot see any evidence of any woodworm in any of the legs or exposed parts of the frame.
A Georgian mahogany double chair backed settee, in the Queen Anne style, with splat backs, moulded arms and raised on cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. Width 48 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The settee is in unrestored condition. It is structurally sound but a little tired. There is an old repair to the top left hand corner of the back where the stile and top rail has been drilled and either dowelled or screwed and a circular mahogany section let in to the top. The repair is solid and good. Both splats are solid and strong although the left one has had two small old repairs. Both arms are generally sound and in good condition. The drop in seat is original but tired. The front rail is solid. The left and right hand legs are slightly loose and have old dowelled repairs. The pad feet are in reasonable condition. All three rear legs have old spliced repairs to the bottom 3 inches of the rear of each leg. Again these are sound old repairs. There is minor evidence of old woodworm at the rear of the splats and in the seat frame but this is long gone. The settee is probably circa 1780.
A three piece walnut bergere lounge suite, with loose cushions upholstered in burgundy and pink foliate patterned material, with moulded frame raised on short claw and ball feet. CONDITION REPORT: The suite is in generally good, untouched, original condition. The canework on both chairs is probably original and in generally very good condition. There are no holes that we can see and only one or two very minor breaks to single pieces of cane which are not problematic. The same comments apply to the settee. On both the settee and the chairs the cane is nice and taut and to repeat only a few very minor snapped pieces of cane. Each of the three pieces is structurally very sound. The walnut veneer on the backs is in generally good order with no significant damage, repairs or restoration. There are some scuff marks around the arms and proud parts of each piece but no significant issues of a structural nature. The upholstery which may well be original is also in generally very good condition and serviceable.
