AN EDWARDIAN MAHOGANY INLAID SETTEE TOGETHER WITH FOUR CHAIRS, the shaped open back with satinwood inlaid detail, all raised on slender cabriole supports (5)

A Victorian walnut double ended settee, with foliate and scroll carved moulded exposed showframe, with deep buttoned back and stuffover seat, with moulded front rail and raised on cabriole legs terminating in brass castors (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This settee is in generally extremely good condition. The exposed rear showframe is in good order and of good colour. There are no loose joints. The front arms and legs are in good condition and undamaged. The castors are original. The front rail is in good condition as is the carving. The rear legs are original and in good order as are the castors. The upholstery is also in serviceable condition. There is some rubbing to the material on the tops of the deep buttoning and one button top on the top of the right hand arm is actually missing. The stuffover seat is serviceable and the springs seem to be reasonably effective and not poking out through the bottom of the base. Some of the braiding is a little loose in places but it is all present.

A Victorian rosewood conversation settee, of shaped outline, with partially exposed carved showframe and raised on short turned legs terminating in castors (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The settee is structurally very sound. We can see no damage to any of the exposed woodwork. The legs are all structurally sound also with no visible breaks. The castors are original brass castors with cups. They are all a little loose but perfectly serviceable. The upholstery certainly has considerable age but is unlikely to be original. The springs appear to be in generally good condition. The upholstery appears to be a mixture of wadding and horse hair. There is a crunchy feel to the upholstery particularly around the arms and sides of the seats indicating that the piece has both horse hair and wadding inside. The current cover appears to be covering what is probably the original velvet cover. There does not appear to be any woodworm on any of the visible parts.

A 19th century Chinese hardwood settee with carved panelled back. Length 190 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: There is a loss to the carving at the top left hand corner of the left back seat panel. There is a small loss to the centre left section of the second panel. There appears to be a big gap in the top right hand corner but we can see no evidence of any loss of carving here. The third panel has some small losses to the carvings at the bottom left, bottom centre left and top left. The fourth panel seems intact. The carved frieze has a glued repair to the underside of one scroll. There is no loss however. There seems to be a small loss to the right hand bottom corner of the centre section of carving to the right of the squirrel. There is a break in the same area and one or two pieces have been reglued. There are various small losses to the carving in this centre section. There are further small losses to the right hand bottom section of the carving where it joins the leg. The bench is structurally fairly sound but is slightly loose at the joints which do move when the bench is flexed. There are some scuffs and small losses to the rear left hand corner of the back left leg. There are no significant losses or damage to any of the frame work.
