Lot 118

Andalusian school of the first half of the 18th century."Nativity".Oil on canvas. With its original canvas.Frame from the 18th century. It presents restorations. The frame presents faults.Measurements: 57 x 79 cm; 69 x 90,5 cm (frame). The canvas offers us a dynamic and multitudinous Nativity. In the centre of the composition is placed the Virgin, with a youthful and delicate aspect, dressed with pink tunic and mantle. Next to her, in her humble cradle, is the Child, his head surrounded by a luminous nimbus. A large number of figures are clustered around him. A surprised Saint Joseph with a flowering wand stands to the left of the Virgin, while to her right a multitude of winged angels approach to adore the Child. The upper part of the composition is devoted to the angelic world. Putti and young angels appear amidst a wide break in the clouds, witnessing the scene below. Classical ruins complete the overwhelming, highly narrative setting. The type of composition and the dramatic lighting, with its marked chiaroscuro, are in keeping with the Andalusian school of the first half of the 18th century, influenced by Valencian artists such as Isidoro Tapia. The painter used a warm colour range with an abundance of ochre, earthy tones and reds, dotted and contrasted with a few whites and blues.

Original vintage World War Two poster - Switch off that LIGHT! Use Electric appliances less. Cut down in Lighting, Heating and Cooking. Generating electricity consumes coal. Coal is vitally needed for war production. Turn that GAS down! Never burn gas needlessly. Never have gas higher than you need for heating, cooking or lighting. Gas wasted means coal wasted instead of being used to make munitions. Don't waste WATER! Never was under a running tap - use less water in your bath, in your kettle, and for washing up. Hot water takes fuel. Cold water uses power when it's pumped along mains. Release more coal for the war drive. - with illustrations of a light switch, a gas heater, and a water tap set over red background. Printed for H.M. Stationery Office by Fosh & Cross Ltd., London. Very good condition, small tears, minor creasing. Country of issue: UK, designer: Unknown, size (cm): 38x25, year of printing: 1940s.

Property of a deceased's estate 1926 Sunbeam 3½hp Light SoloRegistration no. UE 1809Frame no. S 08492Engine no. 270/18316Already established as makers of high-quality bicycles, the firm of John Marston Ltd of Wolverhampton introduced the first Sunbeam motorcycle, a 350cc sidevalve single, in 1912. The marque quickly established a reputation for sporting prowess, achieving 2nd place in the 1914 Isle of Man Senior TT and winning the 1920 race. Overhead-valve engines were introduced in the mid-1920s, but early successes were achieved with sidevalve machines, most notably the 492cc 'longstroke' that secured a debut win at the 1921 French Grand Prix. In road-going form this remarkable engine remained in production right up until WW2. Offered from the estate of the lady vendor's late father following a period of inactivity, this 'oily rag' 492cc Sunbeam will require re-commissioning at the very least, or possibly more extensive restoration, before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Notable features include an Amac carburettor, ML magneto, Klaxon horn, and acetylene lighting. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to the motorcycle's provenance, age, completeness, originality, and mechanical condition prior to bidding. Accompanying documentation includes a V5C Registration Certificate and an old-style RF.60 logbook (issued 1956).Offered without keyFootnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to biddingLot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

1928 Velocette 349cc Model KRegistration no. YX 7016Frame no. 2181Engine no. KCR2093Velocette's two-strokes had proved very popular, but by the early 1920s it had become apparent that a more upmarket model was required. Other manufacturers were fielding new overhead-valve and overhead-camshaft machines, and Veloce Ltd followed suit, the overhead-cam Model K first appearing in 1924. Of 348cc, the new engine employed a single overhead camshaft driven by vertical shaft, and was unusual in having a very narrow crankcase, an arrangement determined by the existing transmission and frame design, which made for a stiff crankshaft assembly. Entered in the 1925 Isle of Man TT, the new Model K did not fare well, all three entries retiring with lubrication problems. Its engine redesigned to incorporate dry-sump oiling, the 'cammy' Velo returned the following year to score a memorable victory, Alec Bennett romping home in the Junior race 10 minutes ahead of the second-place rider! This Model K Velocette comes with its original sales invoice issued on 18th August 1928 by Velocette's London agents L Stevens Ltd of Goldhawk Road, Shepherd's Bush to first owner Mr G J Stanford. Including electric lighting, the purchase price was £75 17s 1d when the UK average annual wage was around £100. Documentation on file includes two old-style buff logbooks and numerous receipts for parts relating to the Velo's full rebuild by the current owner, who purchased it in 2018. Offered with a V5C.Offered without keyFootnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to biddingFor further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
