THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD (1973) - Ray Harryhausen Archive: Kali Lighting Stand-in Model by Ray Harryhausen - View this 360 turnaround at full sizeA Kali lighting stand-in model by Ray Harryhausen from the production of Gordon Hessler's fantasy adventure The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Koura (Tom Baker) animated a statue of the six-armed Hindu goddess Kali to fight Sinbad (John Phillip Law) and his men. This lot comes from Harryhausen's personal collection. The audacious and elaborate Kali sequence was animated using Harryhausen's iconic stop-motion techniques. Harryhausen said of the sequence: "I have to confess that when faced with the animation for such a complex sequence, I would wonder why I made life so difficult for myself. It was wonderful to dream and plan such effects, but how would I make them all work? Whatever doubts I had about this sequence, today I am extremely proud of it. Everything seemed to come together. The stunts were all first-rate, and the action flows at a cracking pace."This resin model was hand-made by Harryhausen and used as a lighting stand-in during the animation process. THE LOST WORLD (1925)/KING KONG (1933) - Stop-motion Agathaumas Stand-in Model - A stand-in model believed to be from the production of Merian C. Cooper's and Ernest B. Schoedsack's King Kong based on the Agathaumas stop-motion puppet from Harry O. Hoyt's The Lost World. In The Lost World, an Agathaumas defended itself from an attacking Allosaurus before ultimately being killed by a Tyrannosaurus. The Lost World featured groundbreaking stop-motion effects by animation pioneer Willis O'Brien, who would later gain fame for his stop-motion effects in King Kong. For both films, O'Brien designed the skeletal armatures over which Marcel Delgado built the puppets. During the production of King Kong, RKO's resident sculptor, John Cerasoli, carved static wooden models of each puppet that served as stand-ins during setup and test shots because the intense lighting on the stop-motion stages dried out the latex skin of the puppets and hindered their ability to be physically manipulated between frames. Some materials from The Lost World, as well as the unfinished film Creation, were reused by O'Brien during the production of King Kong. While the design of this Agathaumas is that of the Agamauthus from The Lost World and was likely created based on that puppet, it is a wooden stand-in model, which implies that it was created during the production of King Kong, though it ultimately did not appear in the film's final cut. Puppets and models from King Kong, Son of Kong, Creation, and The Lost World were later used as set dressing in subsequent RKO pictures, often in scenes depicting museums or research labs. One such model, an Agathaumas, appeared in Alexander Hall's Once Upon a Time in 1944.This intricately detailed, hand-carved wooden Agathaumas features a brown and black finish as well as holes in the feet, likely used for stage tie-downs or during the creation of moulds of the model. It exhibits chipping and paint wear from use and age as well as some missing spikes. Dimensions: 73.75 cm x 21.75 cm x 25.5 cm (29" x 8.5" x 10")Estimate: £32,000 - 64,000 Ω Bidding for this lot will end on Thursday, November 14th. The auction will begin at 3:00 PM GMT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. SPIDER-MAN (2002) - Green Goblin's (as played by Willem Dafoe) Hero Helmet with Bodysuit - Green Goblin's (as played by Willem Dafoe) hero helmet with a bodysuit from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Deranged industrialist Norman Osborne wore his signature costume when his armoured alter-ego, Green Goblin, battled his arch nemesis, Spider-Man (as played by Tobey Maguire). This lot consists of a hero fibreglass Green Goblin helmet with orange mesh-backed eyes hand-painted metallic green and hand-marked "No. 1" on the interior, as well as a matching green vinyl jumpsuit with fibreglass armour built onto the chest and arms and a John David Ridge costumier's tag on the interior labelled "Mr. Willem Dafoe" alongside illegible blue ink markings. The exterior of the helmet has been touched-up with iridescent paint to create colour shifting under stage lighting, while the interior features wiring designed to illuminate lighting elements behind the eyes (though the current functionality of the wiring remains untested) as well as various fastening strips and metal fittings. While a cover plate at the rear underside of the helmet designed to mount into three posts on its top is missing, this example remains among the most complexly detailed and used Green Goblin helmets ever to come to market. The bodysuit exhibits cracked vinyl and flaking paint from production wear and age, most visibly on the back of the neck; and the armour exhibits cracking and some splitting throughout.Contains electronics; see electronics notice in the Buyer's Guide.Estimate: £30,000 - 60,000 Ω Bidding for this lot will end on Thursday, November 14th. Green opaline and metal (brass or bronze). Dimensions 58 × 17 × 17 cm. This exquisite lamp, dating back to the 19th century, stands out for its elegant green opaline and gold decorations that demonstrate the master craftsmanship of the time. Its classic shape, composed of three bodies—fuel tank, decorated central body and upper part with wick—complements the rich floral ornamentation, where roses symbolize love and beauty. Oil on panel from the 17th century. Dimensions: 18x16 cm. This work depicts a lady belonging to the Dutch school. The painting reflects the skill in the use of colour and the detailed representation of textures, distinctive features of Dutch genre painting, which sought to capture not only the appearance, but also the essence and character of the model. The details of her attire, including feathers and jewellery, are indicative of her social status, while the subtle technique and soft lighting enhance the intimate atmosphere of the portrait. 18 x 16 cm.
Oil on panel. Dimensions 77 × 57 cm. The scene of the Crucifixion takes place against a deep blue background, with a dying Christ in the centre, flanked by grieving figures, including the Virgin and Saint John, who express sadness and devotion. The composition follows the Venetian style of the 16th century, with a dramatic treatment of the figures and a strong lighting contrast. The use of perspective and the arrangement of the figures around the cross create a balanced composition that highlights suffering and redemption.

On offer from long term ownership, this time warp Legacy RS Turbo is remarkably well preserved having covered less than 22,500 miles from new. In the early 1990s, Subaru’s rally exploits turned the brand’s image on its head. From being staid, unimaginative all-wheel drive oddities that only a farmer might want, the cars campaigned by the likes of Ari Vatanen, Markku Alén, Colin McRae and Richard Burns became the darlings of the 1990s go-faster brigade, as the Legacy and Impreza conquered rally stages across the globe and won World Championships. The first of these to appear was based on the successful Legacy four-door saloon and arrived in 1988 as the Legacy RS, with production starting in 1989. Designed to be homologated for 'Group A' competition, it featured a 220bhp, 2-litre, four-cam, 16v, EJ20 turbocharged flat-four mated to a 5-speed gearbox and all-wheel drive offering a top speed of 155mph.First registered in 1989, this early generation RS Legacy was imported from Japan and has been with its current owner since 2014, kept in heated storage with (importantly) no external lighting, where this time-warp remains today having covered less than 1,200 miles since then. Sitting on a set of gold 15" 6-spoke alloy wheels, it's finished in Ceramic White (057) over a grey cloth and cord-trimmed interior, featuring light grey 'tricot' cloth inserts on the seats with matching door cards. The factory specification includes a heated rear windscreen, 3-spoke leather-trimmed Momo steering wheel, automatic air conditioning, a CD and cassette stereo, electrically adjustable folding door mirrors and electric windows. The Cherished Registration Number, G14 PWL, was purchased to go with the car as a respectful nod to Collin McRae's 'Group A'-winning Subaru Legacy, J314 PWL.This Subaru Legacy RS Turbo is a very well presented time warp of the modern classic Japanese performance saloon, offered in impressive, original condition, and with low mileage. Presented in a timeless factory colour scheme, with a potent turbocharged flat-four, an engaging 5-speed manual gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive, it would make an excellent addition to any collection of Japanese performance cars and an exciting yet practical retro daily driver or weekend toy.Specification Make: SUBARU Model: LEGACY RS Year: 1989 Chassis Number: BC5015363 Registration Number: G14 PWL Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 100945 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 36000 KM Make: RHD Interior Colour: Grey clothClick here for more details and images
Buick's slogan Looks fine for '49! wasn't wrong; a magnificent American classic with serious style and presence, and optioned with the iconic 'Sweepspear' chrome design - a real beauty! The Buick Roadmaster of 1949 was a seminal model, introducing a new design-language to the marque and reinforced an emerging new psychology around buying a car - choosing a Buick had become more of a lifestyle decision and that trend would continue as buyers embraced the new ‘fuselage style’ that was inspired by aircraft design. These numerous new design features included a larger, chrome-laden grille, and a curved windshield - but some other elements to this new model were to become even more significant, influencing not only Buick's styling theme for years, but creating a whole new style of car for the US-market.The 1949 Roadmaster Riviera, along with other newly launched, glamorous models – the Cadillac Coupe de Ville and the Oldsmobile 98 Deluxe Holiday Coupe – debuted for the first time on a mass production model for the US-market the ‘2-door pillarless hardtop coupé configuration (the design offered a fixed roofline with disappearing side windows and no B-pillar; when the windows were lowered, the car took on the look of a convertible with its top raised - British cars already had the 'Fixed Head Coupé'; thus, combining the style of a convertible with the security and weather protection of a sedan/saloon). The Riviera offered the best of sporty design and closed practicality, and it would influence two decades of automobile design around the world. Its name would remain a part of Buick’s lineage for 50 years.Next up, and again significantly for the Buick design-language of its cars to come, was that the 1949 Roadmaster first introduced the (now) iconic ‘VentiPorts’ which went on to be a traditional Buick styling cue for many years. These are a series of three or four ‘vents’ on the front wing behind the front wheels. Four vents were displayed on each of the Roadmaster and Century's front wings, with three on the wings of the Super and Special to denote junior level products. The sales brochure noted that VentiPorts helped ventilate the engine compartment, possibly true in early 1949, but they became non-functional sometime during the model year.It is believed that the original idea for these portholes was to fit them with lights that would flash on and off in sequence with the engines firing order – the idea being that VentiPorts put the driver in the control of an imaginary fighter airplane. Upon seeing this prototype set-up fitted to a designer’s own ’48 Roadmaster, Buick chief Harlow Curtice was so delighted that he ordered that (non-lighting) VentiPorts be installed on all 1949 Buicks, with the number of VentiPorts (three or four) corresponding to the relative displacement of the straight-eight engine installed.Furthermore, the 1949 Roadmaster Riviera was also notable for first introducing its popular optional ‘Sweepspear’ chrome body side moulding, which would soon become another Buick trademark. This chrome-plated strip started above the front wheel, then gently curved down nearly to the rocker panel just before the rear wheel, and then curved around the rear wheel in a quarter of a circle to go straight back to the taillight. The ‘Riviera trim’, as it was initially called, was also made available on the Roadmaster convertible late in the model year, and was made standard on most body styles at the beginning of the 1950 model year.On top of all this ‘influence’, the 1949 Roadmaster Riviera specification included a 150bhp ‘Fireball’ 320 CID overhead-valve inline eight-cylinder engine (with dual downdraft carburettor), Dynaflow automatic transmission, independent front coil-spring and semi-elliptic leaf-spring rear suspension, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes – all for $3,203 in 1949.With production numbers from that year showing only 4,343 Riviera models were produced and a frequently used Buick resource that was published in 1979 states that at that time, less than ten of these vehicles were accounted for, this is now a rare and very special car.The car presented here is a 1949 Buick Roadmaster Riviera, a truly exceptional example of its type, which was originally restored by the technical advisor to the Buick Club UK. It is believed to be one of only 50 surviving examples worldwide and the only one in the UK and has featured at The Cartier Style et Luxe Lawn, one of the finest Concours d'Elegance events in the world, where the most beautiful cars are presented in exceptional condition. The car was also a former winner of the NEC Car of the Year award. Always garaged and sparingly used, it has always been maintained to a very high standard, accompanied by extensive records of its servicing and restoration history. As our vendor says ‘this car has to be seen to be believed’; we couldn’t agree more, we look forward to seeing you.Specification Make: BUICK Model: ROADMASTER RIVIERA Year: 1949 Chassis Number: V1N1531452615342105 Registration Number: YAS 241 Transmission: Automatic Engine Number: 55382807 Drive Side: Left-hand Drive Make: LHDClick here for more details and images
